We usually were living too far away from grandparents to be going there
for any of the holidays, so it was just us...  And Daddy was much more
generous with turkey than with the other meats...  :)  We had more to
eat, and all stuff we liked, so it made for a better meal.  :)  No
turnips, and if there were sweet potatoes, that was a treat for us.  We
had lima beans every so often, anyway... generally mixed with corn, for
succotash...  :)   When we did happen to visit grandparents, I don't
remember ever being given something to eat that we didn't like, and
certainly never forced to eat large quantities of disliked food.  :)

Guess you lost more than you gained there... :)

Celery sticks and carrot sticks were often on our table, not just at
holidays... and since Daddy liked pickles, it was often part of Sunday
night suppers...  Olives were uncommon, though... I think we only had
those elsewhere...  Nowadays, they are usually part of the family buffet
when we get together, though...  :)

Sadly true...  :)   One had to scramble to be the first...  ;)

Mostly similar tastes, although Lydia and her kids go for some that
Mommy doesn't care so much about...  :)

I was kinda thinking sending cookies home with the kids that were home
for Christmas...  :)   Except for years when cookies WERE the present,
there wasn't cookie distribution outside the home for us, either... and
it was mostly some variety of oatmeal cookie...  Usually with candied
fruit at Christmas to make them a bit more special... Daddy usually
baked those, and he also made a pretty good PB candy.   :)

Possibly, but that doesn't explain her passing over the lower sugar/carb
ones....

Just because you use it as a storing surface doesn't negate that it is
counter space...  <G>  As Steve's use of it indicates, as well...  :)
