Interesting.  Here, I think it's still (at least mainly) the perview of
the specialists.... but then, they are part of the ER staff essentially
too... trying to think if I've ever noted other than radiology staff
doing any U/S work....

That (the signs and currency) probably is a leftover from when the US
had control of the Canal Zone...  Apparently there wasn't enough
interaction with the natives to affect the language so much.

Similar here, with the support staff... most speak reasonably decent
English as well, though...  Is that the case for your hospital...? 
Linda was finding that in Miami, there were few English speakers, mostly
some form of Spanish only.. and that, even among the doctors and nurses,
not just support staff...  Rather frustrating for a non-spanish speaker.

I suppose it could show light on what it's like for someone not English
speaking in an English-speaking hospital...  but I do note that usually
there is a lot of effort put into making sure there are translators for
almost any language available in our local hospitals and such... with
prominent signs posted with that statement in those languages... usually
only a call away...  :)
