Hi Janis,

>> that much harder to switch to "spring mode" hehe.. I'm hoping the
>> forecasters are right about this winter being mild here though :)

JK> > I know, I'm hoping we have a milder winter this time around also.

JK> It will be fun kind of it you get snow at the new place... :) Ok, fun
 JK> if it's just a dusting :)

Probably like here, snow and more so, ice. We're not moving that far
away.

>> Yes, for one person, it's a bit of work. The agent selling the house
>> in Windsor is advertising it as single family or multiple family or
>> inlaw/mother-daughter since it has 4 kitchens and 4 bathrooms... It
>> worked well for us when we all lived there.

JK> > A bit too far from schools in Binghamton to be student apartments
JK> tho, > unless they want to live way off campus.

JK> Not really.. it's just 20 minutes to Binghamton.. My daughter went to
JK> grad school at Binghamton University and lived with us upstairs with
JK> her family when we first moved to Windsor :) She's the one who found
JK> the house while we were Kentucky. We made a trip at some point to sign
JK> papers, etc., but she did all the initial legwork, which was great.
JK> Then she and her (then only) son and husband moved upstairs and she
JK> commuted. It was several years later when they moved to Ithaca. The
JK> previous owner of the house had a student living in the two room apt.
JK> upstairs as well, and he commuted to the community college IIRC.

OK, for some reason I was thinking it was longer. Maybe because we go
thru Binghamton, not stopping most of the time.

>> Yes, it's definitely easier to help out with the kids, and see
>> everyone often :)

JK> > We have to settle for Skype to see ours but Rachel texted and
JK> e-mailed > some pictures the other day.

JK> That's nice... There are advantages to pictures.... :) we just got a
JK> cold/flu from the grandboys Lol... well, so far only Ron has it, but
JK> I'm probably next in line... all of the people in my daughter's house
JK> had it first and we had to keep the boys while my daughter had some
JK> business out of town... oh well <grin>

No fun--slurp that chicken soup!

>> Here's my recipe for cheap-o Chicken Soup... works when you're on a
>> tight budget :)

>> ===Lesser Chicken Soup===
>> 1 chicken back
>> 2 chicken wings
>> Chicken breast-bone with ribs, or other chicken bones you've saved 2
>> large onions, cut in quarters
>> 2 carrots, chopped in large pieces
>> 2 sticks celery with leaves, stalks chopped in large pieces, leaves
>> minced 2 cloves garlic, chopped
>> 4 Chicken bouillion cubes or homemade chicken bouillion mix, below. 6
>> black pepper balls

JK> > Easy enough to do. My quick and easy version is to get a rotisserie
JK> > chicken, shred it into a pot of stock, simmer for about half an
JK> hour. > Then add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables and a bag of
JK> whatever pasta > (macaroni, spirals, etc) you want, simmer about 20
JK> minutes to half an > hour or so more. Season to taste.

JK> Yes, that's a good idea, I've done that as well on occasion. I try
JK> too stay away from the chickens that may have had antibiotics, that
 JK> kind of thing, though.

I can understand that. We hit a sale on unseasoned roasted chickens at
Whole Foods a few years ago but only grabbed 2--cash flow dictated we
not stock the freezer. (G) I suspect they were antibiotic free.

>> ==pseudo chicken bouillion==
>> 1 1/4 cups nutritional yeast flakes or powder 4 Tablespoons onion
>> powder 2 1/2 Tablespoons sea salt
>> 4 teaspoons garlic powder
>> 1 Tablespoon sugar
>> 1 teaspoon dried thyme
>> 1 teaspoon finely dried sage
>> 1 teaspoon paprika
>> 1/2 teaspoon tumeric

>> I've made this with just onion powder and garlic powder and
>> seasonings, but if you have nutritional yeast, it really really does
>> taste like chicken bouillion :)

JK> > Never thought about that; I use the "Better than" brand of soup
JK> bases to > round out the flavor or "punch up" home made stock.

JK> When I have that, I use it as well... this last few weeks we've been
JK> trying too go really cheap.. :)

I understand. I had to restock my beef base a couple of weeks ago. We've
been trying to use up a lot of meats, etc from the big freezer but
getting fresh produce at the farmer's market.
