======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> them NB>> before we got married... my family took him a little longer
NB> to get to NB>> know, although there was a pretty good showing of them
 NB> at our
NB> NB>> wedding.. Kids that marry into our family now have a lot more
 NB> NB>> relatives to meet, though... ;)

RH> The big family keeps getting bigger.

 NB> Tends to, anyway... ;)

Can't help but do so, and then keeping track of how who's related to who
gets interesting. (G)

RH> Steve's dad is one of 11 children; I think there are relatives I've
RH> yet to meet. A few, but not many of my relatives came to our wedding,
RH> none of Steve's except one set of grandparents.

NB> Timing and far-flung-ness has a lot to do with when, whether and who
NB> one is able to meet over the years... ;) If all were living fairly

Most of them didn't travel much beyond the area where they were brought
up.

 NB> close
NB> to another, it's easy enough to at least get a quick introduction to
NB> them all... keeping them straight might be a problem, but at least one
NB> would be exposed to them all.... but when they live all over, chances

Most all of my FIL's siblings lived/live in the central PA area where
they were born/raised. One is (was?) in the Pittsburg area and my FIL is
in Florida but the others didn't go too far from home. The town where
most of them live is noted for a bean soup festival every fall. (I've
not been to that yet.)

NB> are reduced that one would connect to them all. One of Daddy's aunts
NB> had settled in California, and her kids (and theirs) tended to all
NB> stay there... I don't think I would have met them at all, if we
NB> hadn't taken a trip to California (I was in my teens at the time)...
 NB> partly to meet
NB> family, partly because our church's General Assembly was being held
 NB> there that year.

I've gut cousins in CA I've met a few times when they came back east to
visit their mom/grandmother who was Dad's only sister.

NB> NB>> Does he like any olives...?

 RH> Green and kalamata.

NB> Ah. I decided that I liked them all... and, as it turned out, I get
NB> particular cravings for different ones at different times... ;)

I like kalamatas and green the best but will eat black ones, if given to
me.

NB> NB>> Now that we are past Halloween, it won't be long before the
NB> fruitcakes NB>> appear in the store... :) Just like the Halloween
NB> candy, I think NB>> they only order in just so much for the season,
NB> put it out early, and NB>> when it's gone, that's all there was...
 NB> ;)

RH> I've seen the Claxton ones already. There's one called "Southern
RH> Supreme" that is very much like what Steve's mom makes, made west of
RH> here, (between here & Charlotte) that is really good. We saw it in The
RH> Fresh Market a few years ago, after friends gave us some to try. A bit
RH> pricy but much better than the Claxton type cakes.

NB> I forgot to look for them when we last went shopping... they generally
NB> turn up in a part of the bakery section that we don't always walk
 NB> through unless intentionally... :)

We generally don't buy them either. Maybe next year, since we'll be more
settled, I'll dig out my MIL's recipe and make some for Steve.

 NB> RH>> It's a bit of a cathedral ceiling, tho I don't remember if it's
NB> over RH>> all the kitchen or there is a lower section.
NB> NB>> That could be a reach for the pots, for sure... ;) Or the pot
NB> rack NB>> might need to have long extenders to reach the ceiling...
 NB> :)

RH> I'll have to check it out when we move in. Right now we're packing
RH> up and most likely won't get to go into the house again until
 RH> after we sign.

NB> Got your hands full of packing anyway... :) Just have to go on
NB> memory for the moment... and figure out details later when you get
 NB> your full access... :)

We've got boxes all over the living room, some in other rooms as well.
The storage unit is getting full but I can see now that progress is
being made. We needed some room to maneuver boxes and other stuff so
we've been trying to get a lot of the non essentials over to the storage
unit for now. Starting next Thursday, tho, we will be able to take
things directly to the house.

Catch you later,
Ruth
