Hi Janis,
>> Yes, fat and tall :) IIRC, when we'd get propane it cost around
>> $600-700.00.
JK> > Not an inexpensive purchase but if it lasted a good long time, then
JK> it > was worth it. Were you able to pay the bill over several months
JK> or did > you have to pay it all in one shot?
JK> They wanted payment at delivery. That made sense as well, so I didn't
JK> mind waiting until we were at the 1/4 full mark (g). You just had to
JK> not forget to check the amount left in the tanks, which we never did.
JK> Big house=big bills (grin). We had insulated the back bedroom
JK> downstairs, and the front entry-way just after we bought the house to
JK> cut the heating bills some. That helped a lot.
Insulation does help--Steve added some to the attic of one house that we
lived in and our heating/cooling bills reflected the difference. The new
house has some but he will add more, including a batt over the attic
stairway.
>> some > shopping yesterday; when it was totalled, we were under $25.
>> short of > another nickel's credit but decided to wait a bit before
>> doing any more > shopping there. We probably will get it next week.
>> That's a nice way to save some $$ :)
JK> > We do it as often as we can. This spring, before Steve was able to
JK> drive > after his stroke, we were up to a $.25 credit but gave it to
JK> the church > for the van. This week they're running a promo if you
JK> spend $100. in one > visit, you'll get a $.50 credit.
JK> Every little bit helps... and given how close Thanksgiving is maybe it
JK> will be a good time to get a good credit. I figure to do some pumpkin
JK> pies with almond-flour pie crust so my daughter can eat them...
We'll probably do the turkey for those folks that want to gather at the
church house. Last year there weren't too many of us but we still had a
good time. I'm wondering if Lowe's will do what they did last year--a
dime back for every $100. spent from around Thanksgiving to the end of
the year. We built up more credit, faster. Of course it's only good on
one fill up so we try to take advantage of it whenever the tank is
really low.
>> range. It would be interesting to see what an electric range would
>> cost over time compared to a gas range here... we do have 220 coming

>> We'd need a new electric range though but as long as I'm dreaming ....
>> (G)
JK> > Our last gas range was when we were in AZ, left there in March of
JK> 2001 > so it's been a while since I cooked regularly with gas. Rachel
JK> has it, > and IIRC, so does Deborah, but we've not been out west since
JK> August of > last year. I usually help Rachel more with the cooking
JK> than I do
JK> > Deborah, just the way things work at each girl's house.
JK> Understand.. It's nice using a gas range as well, I have no complaints
JK> there.
I like them but Steve says they put too many particulants in the air--to
which a pulminology specialist said the newer ones don't--and I have
asthma. He thinks I'd have more breathing trouble, I say not
neccessarily.
>> he never gets a sniffle :) Now we're only 10 minutes from Ithaca so I
>> should check if there is anywhere offering free flu shots though. :)
JK> > Probably would make more sense to find a more local doctor. We
JK> changed
JK> There aren't that many doctors in the Ithaca area strangely enough. I
JK> guess everyone goes to Binghamton for doctors :) "Country living" I
JK> guess. Certainly all the specialists are in Binghamton, so we've kept
JK> our docs there. IIRC the doctors here in Ithaca don't have privileges
JK> in the Binghamton hospital either, which is where you'd end up if you
JK> needed to be admitted.
I would have thought Ithaca would have had a pretty good number of
medical specialists and hospitals, especially with Cornell there, and it
being a big research school. Sort of surpising.
JK> were > just seeing PAs. Found a practice in WF where we see doctors,
JK> tho Steve > does most of his work thru the VA. He has a doctor here in
JK> WF for back > up, if he can't get a VA appointment.
JK> That's handy.
So far tho, he's seeing the VA most of the time.
>> :) Typically, when I cook, I cook a lot of what I'm making and store
>> it in the frig or freezer.. that's one (or more days) I don't have to
>> knock myself out cooking (g). Or cleaning up after hehe...(g)
JK> > I do a lot of either big batch and freeze or just enough cooking,
JK> > depends on what I'm making. I'll probably put the remains of the
JK> chicken > in the little crock pot tomorrow morning.
JK> I think I'm just not used to using it so I rarely think of using it
JK> (g). I made chili last week, and the chicken soup, and made them both
JK> on the stove top. I suppose if I worked outside the house, I'd have
JK> more reason to use the crockpot as well.
I go on fits and spurts with it--did a chicken soup/stew yesterday. It
was almost thick enough to be a stew, a bit thicker than soup after I
took out some of the stock to use elsewhere.
JK> took down > the rack tonight--the kitchen looks so empty!
JK> Know what you mean there :) It was the same with the kitchen in
JK> Windsor :) I wanted to buy another rack for that kitchen but finances
JK> weren't there for that. There are certainly plenty of cabinets in
JK> center island and there is another rack on the facing wall to center
JK> island so it really wasn't necessary. I just had too many pots and
JK> pans (G).
JK> > We also picked up a small (about 10") round griddle at a kitchen
JK> store > in Savannah a few years ago.
JK> That sounds like nice thing to have. My griddle is one I bought a few
JK> years ago but it's not cast iron. It works well though.
As long as it works, that's what counts. (G)
>> hearing from people.. not that we can do much over there at this
>> point...
JK> > Just pray for a fast sale at a good price.
JK> Yes, that's what I'm hoping. No more word yet on the folks that are
JK> interested. From what the agent said so far, the people who are
JK> interested have to come up some in their offer to get to the point we
JK> decided was viable with how much we owe, etc. We are being very
JK> reasonable with the price already compared to what we bought the house
JK> for, so they need to come up just a bit.
I understand--we went up some on our 2nd offer and they went down to
make the house more affordable for us.
JK> also > building. (G) I want to measure shelves to know how much liner
JK> to buy, > clean some areas in the kitchen that didn't get a good
JK> cleaning, figure > out where I can stow what and so on.
JK> Yep.. then the fun of keeping out a pan or two, a place settings for
JK> the two of you, and poof. it's moving day :) When is your closing
JK> date? Must be coming up.. :)
We're closing on Nov. 20, next Thursday. This house is getting to look
like a move is in the works. Had to use my pressure cooker (as a regular
pot) to cook some beet greens today as the stock pot was packed and in
the storage unit.
