=========================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> Why go somewhere that is second-best (or less) when there's
 NB> better NB>> around... :) The family-owned might even be a little
 NB> less expensive, maybe...? :)

RH> I'm not sure, haven't been to an OG in long enough I don't know their
RH> current pricing. Not as much a variety of choices at the family owned
RH> place but my MIL specifically wanted to go there to celebrate Steve's
 RH> graduation 2 years ago.

NB> Better to have fewer choices, all good, than more choices where maybe
NB> one or two might be reasonable... ;)

That way we don't spend a lot of time and money weeding out the not as
good choices.

NB> NB>> wayside when too many of the families weren't going to be there
NB> NB>> having already left for family celebrations out of town... We
NB> used NB>> to go to that service fully packed and loaded for heading
NB> out to Syracuse right afterward...

RH> Understandable, Syracuse isn't that far from Rochester that you
RH> could go to church and be at your destination at a reasonable hour.

 NB> Exactly.

Especially if you were going to the west side of Syracuse. It's been
years since we've been in the city proper--Dad and Mom took us a few
times when they visited former professors but we were quite young then.

RH> The church I grew up in didn't have a mid week (or Sunday evening)
RH> service so we didn't miss anything by going to NJ Wednesday after
RH> we got out of school.

NB> If it hadn't been for the joint service, there wouldn't have been
NB> anything that evening at our church... generally instead of a midweek
NB> service there were various small groups meeting in homes throughout
NB> the week, according to whatever worked best for each group... :)

Sort of like our Life Groups? We do combined LG events several times a
year but most of the time it's just the individual groups. I think the
original plan was to have some groups meet during the week but Sunday
ended up being the day that worked best for all of them to meet. We're
still the only group that does a meal every week.

NB> dinner NB>> at church... turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy,
NB> winter squash, NB>> broccoli, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter, raw
 NB> baby carrots...
NB> NB>> little cups with candy corn and candy pumpkins on the tables...
NB> and NB>> for dessert, a wide assortment of pies and other goodies...

RH> IOW, you got stuffed. (G)

NB> Sufficiently, anyway... :) I stopped well before it becoming
 NB> uncomfortable... ;)

I do that too. It's a lot better than getting that overstuffed feeling.

NB> NB>> Afterwards, they were sending leftovers home with whoever wanted
NB> to.. NB>> I grabbed a zip-lock bag of dark meat turkey, along with
NB> two wings NB>> (whole, skin bones and all), to add to my turkey
NB> congee about to be NB>> processed tomorrow... I put the wings in
NB> water tonight with the two NB>> thigh bones left from when I made the
NB> turkey and rice originally... :) NB>> That'll give me stock to add to
NB> the soup tomorrow... and the rest of NB>> the meat will either get
NB> added to the soup or be used for sandwiches..

RH> Sounds good; I'm putting most of the chicken carcase from the other
RH> day into the small crock pot tomorrow.

NB> Turned out there was more than enough extra meat just from the bones
NB> to add to the soup, so the rest will be sandwiches... maybe today...
 NB> ;)
NB> Still have some soup left, too... turned out quite nicely... :)

Steve finished the soup tonight but I've got about a cup of stock I'll
use for something this week.

NB> Was that chicken carcase from the one Steve finally smoked for
 NB> supper...? :)

Yes, we still have a thigh piece left so I'll probably do something with
it and the stock for a meal for the 2 of us.

Catch you later,
