Ärende: houses
==============
Hi Janis,

JK> > Insulation does help--Steve added some to the attic of one house
JK> that we > lived in and our heating/cooling bills reflected the
JK> difference. The new > house has some but he will add more, including a
JK> batt over the attic stairway.

JK> Sounds good, should help quite a bit as you know. We were very
JK> relieved to see this house in Slaterville Springs has a lot of
JK> insulation... that, plus the smaller size makes quite a difference no
 JK> doubt.

It should, especially in cold weather. Are you getting much snow? We
just talked to our younger daughter--she said one of her cousins in
western NY said something about expecting 50".

>> Every little bit helps... and given how close Thanksgiving is maybe it
>> will be a good time to get a good credit. I figure to do some pumpkin
>> pies with almond-flour pie crust so my daughter can eat them...

JK> > We'll probably do the turkey for those folks that want to gather at
JK> the > church house. Last year there weren't too many of us but we
JK> still had a > good time. I'm wondering if Lowe's will do what they did
JK> last year--a > dime back for every $100. spent from around
JK> Thanksgiving to the end of > the year. We built up more credit,
JK> faster. Of course it's only good on > one fill up so we try to take
JK> advantage of it whenever the tank is
 JK> > really low.

JK> That is handy... Thankfully our little car is really only taken out
JK> for shopping since we work at home...so gas expense is not too bad.
JK> It's a Kia Soul, the one with all those animals in tv ad (what are
 JK> they? hamsters? Lol)

I think they're supposed to be hamsters. We had a Soul (lime green) as a
rental car last year; it was ok but we like our Escape. (G) We did get a
turkey tonightbut didn't reach the $100 for the extra gas credit. We
also picked up a couple of breasts (BOGO) for the freezer.

>> Understand.. It's nice using a gas range as well, I have no complaints
>> there.

JK> > I like them but Steve says they put too many particulants in the
JK> air--to > which a pulminology specialist said the newer ones
 JK> don't--and I have
JK> > asthma. He thinks I'd have more breathing trouble, I say not
 JK> > neccessarily.

JK> My mom who had asthma always refused gas ranges for that reason. She
JK> said it did affect her breathing the few times she did have one.

I never especially noticed any problems. Could be since I was having
other issues with the asthma the gas stove was just an incidental player
in the overall mix.

>> There aren't that many doctors in the Ithaca area strangely enough. I
>> guess everyone goes to Binghamton for doctors :) "Country living" I
>> guess. Certainly all the specialists are in Binghamton, so we've kept

JK> > I would have thought Ithaca would have had a pretty good number of
JK> > medical specialists and hospitals, especially with Cornell there,

JK> There isn't a hospital in Ithaca... there is a medical center, but no
JK> hospital... Since Binghamton is not that far, I'm sure that's the
JK> reason and Binghamton has two large hospitals. My son went to the
JK> med. center in Ithaca to see his cancer doc there (he was just told he
JK> doesn't have to return, which is good news (g)) and his general
JK> practioner is there as well. But neither Ron nor I wanted to change to
JK> a doctor that doesn't have priv. at the Binghamton hospitals :)
JK> Cornell has a hospital in NYC that I go to once in a while (or I did
JK> at least) when I was seeing that neurologist in Manhatten
 JK> (Cornell-NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital) but I decided it's just too
JK> much of a drive. That's where their medical college is as well.

OK, I see. I would want to have a doctor that had admitting privileges
to the hospital I needed to go to.

>> (g). I made chili last week, and the chicken soup, and made them both
>> on the stove top. I suppose if I worked outside the house, I'd have
>> more reason to use the crockpot as well.

 JK> > I go on fits and spurts with it--did a chicken soup/stew yesterday.
JK> It > was almost thick enough to be a stew, a bit thicker than soup
JK> after I > took out some of the stock to use elsewhere.

JK> That was probably good stock :)

Seemed to be, I'm going to use it tomorrow in a chicken casserole sort
of thing.

>> > Just pray for a fast sale at a good price.

>> Yes, that's what I'm hoping. No more word yet on the folks that are
>> interested. From what the agent said so far, the people who are
>> interested have to come up some in their offer to get to the point we
>> decided was viable with how much we owe, etc. We are being very
>> reasonable with the price already compared to what we bought the house
>> for, so they need to come up just a bit.

JK> > I understand--we went up some on our 2nd offer and they went down to
JK> > make the house more affordable for us.

 JK> That is good.

And we are almost to closing now.

>> Yep.. then the fun of keeping out a pan or two, a place settings for
>> the two of you, and poof. it's moving day :) When is your closing
>> date? Must be coming up.. :)

JK> > We're closing on Nov. 20, next Thursday. This house is getting to
JK> look > like a move is in the works. Had to use my pressure cooker (as
JK> a regular > pot) to cook some beet greens today as the stock pot was
JK> packed and in > the storage unit.

JK> Not very far off at all, that's nice... and that's Ron's birthday
JK> (g)... Those pressure cooker pans are handy :)

Wish him a happy birthday for us--tell him we got an under sink water
filter and new kitchen faucet for his birthday present. (G) I've not
packed up the pressure cooker yet; since it's in a box already, I'll
probably just carry it to the house "as is".

Catch you later,
