Lives of the patients? Secondary except insofar as it
affects the stats.

The drug, as I now read, has some interesting effects,
including neurological ones that can be permanent. It
seems that my numbness and tingling are wearing off
somewhat, so maybe the nerve damage is reparable in
this case.

They're just so effing shortsighted.

So why didn't they put in a multiple use A-line? Oh, I
know the answer - see what I said about residents a day
or two ago.

The chief resident on my service was a somewhat self-important
young man with a Very Famous Name. I sort of inquired behind
his back, and it turns out he is the eldest son and apple of
the eye of Very Famous Name. Through the back channels he
apparently heard that I knew his father, and my treatment got
ever so much more respectful; unfortunately, shortly thereafter
the GI service got its fingers into the pie and messed everything
up again.

There is no allopathic treatment for my condition, and the
only one that alternative medicine suggests is Vitamin K,
which doesn't work for me. Doesn't matter where the adventure
is. Traveling (or doing any exercise) is always going to be
a calculated risk.

I figure we'll lose maybe 10 to 50 to ebola in this
country before we get a handle on it - far fewer than
will die from running red lights, eating too much tofu,
or the flu.

Turns out Zone Alarm is incompatible with my reinstallation,
so off it goes. Relying on an outdated Windows Firewall now.

Funny - some of the highest rated facilities are in FL -
as well as some of the worst. Probably has something to do
with financial disparities in the various subregions.

Candlenut Chili Paste
cat: Southeast Asian, condiment, ingredient
yield: 1 batch

1 1/2 oz Shallots
6 cloves Garlic
4 oz Chilis, hot red
1/2 ts Salt  
1 1/2 oz Candlenuts

Slice all items thin, chop fine, mix, and pound to a
paste in a large stone mortar or run until smooth in
a mini-prep food processor.
