Probably some sort of protocol... or the typical lack of thinking
around corners that happens in such places... :) Or both....

ML>> Oh, of course. They wouldn't make that same mistake that
ML>> they did with the first discharge, Activity: No Restrictions

NB>> Quite true. But I don't blame them for hedging the instructions

ML> I don't blame them; not guaranteeing that I will totally

Theirs but to command... ours to to as we see best (or fit).. ;) With
any luck, enough sound judgement will ensue that it'll all turn out
fine... :)

Speaking of which... haven't exactly mentioned my latest escapade
(hinted at in some of my responses, though), but there's similarities in
how I dealt with their instructions... ;) An attack of what turned
out to be gout landed me in an Urgent Care place... they sent me home
with an ace-bandage wrapped foot, a blood requisition and a script for
prednisone... filled the script, had the blood drawn, and then proceded
to talk myself out of taking any of the pills. A visit to my massage
therapist the next day, and then checking in my reference books for
healing foods, and such... Since I couldn't schedule a follow-up with
my doctor in the requisite 7-10 days (it started out being about 20 days
and then got rescheduled for even longer), I looked for ways to deal
with getting rid of the symptoms. Rest, elevation, compression, celery,
black cherries, curry/turmeric, ginger... and bought some celery seed
extract capsules and an herbal anti-inflammatory supplement at Lori's,
which became part of the daily dosings. I just saw my doctor yesterday,
and the gout is gone completely, and he fully approved of my decisions
and actions there. :) I brought the supplements in for him to check
out, he approved them too... :)

NB>>> Those at least do allow for a little time to convelesce.. and make
NB>>> sure that things are working properly innardly...
ML>> There will be a couple shorter trips - to Washington
ML>> and back, for example, that will test things out.
 NB>> Wise.
ML> And until May all the trips will keep me within a few hours
ML> of first-rate medical care. Even during the transpacific leg
ML> I will be within 4 or 5 hours of modern hospitals at all times.

Probably safe enough. :)

NB>>> Maybe by then everything will have settled properly and things not be
 NB>>> quite so edgy... :)
ML>> Or maybe the offending member will be removed by then.
 NB>> Might be a good thing. :)
ML> Did it come out here that all Australians who plan to go to
ML> Antarctica for whatever reason must have their appendix
ML> removed no matter what their and its condition?

Yes, I think you mentioned it somewhere along the thread... I'd heard
about it before, too. :)

ML>>> Try this place sometime. Massachusetts General Hospital.
NB>>> With any luck, I won't be close enough to need to... ;0
ML>> Just go online and check out diagrams of the place and
ML>> be thankful you'll not be close enough to need it.
NB>> Just from your hints, I'm very thankful already... :)
ML> For a while MGH hovered at a manageable 999 beds, though
ML> with a new facility that caters to the odd combo of oncology
ML> and neurology patients, the magic 1000 has been broken (and,
ML> I'm told, this new ward consists of all singles. It was one
ML> of the phlebotomists who informed me of this fact - her gripe
ML> was that she had to do twice as much walking as the patient
ML> density was half. Also troublesome is that the facility "just
ML> growed," which means that the path between one building and
ML> the next is not necessarily straightforward.

The latter is more of a hassle... and I'm sure can be confusing as well
as not terribly efficient... I'm less sure of the walking being doubled
because of the density being halved, as not every patient needs blood
work regularly during their stay... and one would have to walk by any
number of doors to get to the next one on the schedule anyway... :)

 ML> Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars
 ML> categories: dessert, dairy, poison

Sigh. ;) I note the designation... ;)
