NB>> Pretty typical... :) The mind won't accept that so much time has
NB>> passed, it just seems like yesterday that we were whatever (in
NB>> college, just married, etc etc)... and then the body reminds with
NB>> its aches and pains and challenges... :)

RH> Especially when you ask it to do something it's not used to doing.
RH> Steve was working under the kitchen sink putting in the garbage
RH> disposal--said he had to contort himself quite a bit in ways he wasn't
RH> used to. He used the car jack to hold the disposal in place while
 RH> fastening it in. (G)

Hopefully he didn't re-injure the back... Good thinking on using the
jack... :)

NB>> We put a rail up on the side of the house
NB>> for the side porch stairs, and it got more use by visitors for a
NB>> while... nowadays, there are days I need it to haul myself up,
NB>> when the legs (knees, ankles) don't want to work easily... :)

RH> I usually keep a hand on a rail if one is there, just to keep steady.
RH> The new house has several steps to the front door, unlike this place
RH> where it's a matter of a couple of inches between the driveway &
 RH> porch.

We used to just have a hand on the side of the house, before the rail
was installed... which is fine for steadying, but not so good if a bit
more is needed. :)

RH> All went well with the signing but there are a number of
RH> things Steve is working on before we do much moving of boxes. I'm
RH> filling the boxes as he does the other work.

At least you are on the downward slope now. :)

RH>> water filter and high rise kitchen sink faucet to improve the place.
RH>> Other changes will be made at a slower pace but those will make
RH>> things much nicer in the kitchen.
NB>> Good things to put in right at the start, when you can... especially
NB>> when you do so much cooking... :)

 RH> That's the idea.

And you have the luxury of not having to move out immediately from the
old place so you have that flexibility... :)

RH>> So you could, when this stove dies, go back to gas if you wanted to.
RH>> Probably more hassle than it's worth tho, unless you really want the
 RH>> gas stove.
NB>> Most probably more hassle, especially since when we redid the kitchen,
NB>> we moved the sink to the side of the kitchen where the stove had been
NB>> and the stove to the outer wall, so the still existing gas line is
NB>> under the sink now... ;) It would need extending/reworking to put in

RH> So it's a possibility, but most likely not a probability.

That about sums it up. :)

NB>> a gas stove now... I wouldn't totally discount the idea, but it's
NB>> also totally possible that the ancient electric stove will outlast
NB>> us as well, making the issue moot... ;)

RH> Possible, or it could die completely tomorrow--but let's hope not.

So far we've been able to replace important things that died, keeping
the oven working... and at least two of the burners are fully
functional, so they aren't likely to die overnight. Dunno if we could
get replacements for them, but Richard's quite ingenious at devising
solutions... ;)

RH>> She did quite a bit of typing before computers came along. What was
RH>> surprising was that she didn't "catch on" to how to delete the old,
RH>> start the new letter--she had to relearn every week for over 20 years.
NB>> My point being that there was no need to delete before starting a new
NB>> one before the computer, one just took a fresh piece of paper and
NB>> started typing. No need to name stuff and then have to delete the old
NB>> to use the same name (or to rename it, if one wanted to keep the

RH> True, she never made the "leap" in learning.

For some that was an uncrossable chasm... or at least felt like it.

NB>> previous letter for some reason). My aunt never has done that well
NB>> with technology, and her mind hasn't been slipping at all... she's
NB>> into genealogy and we've shared research findings over the years...
NB>> But the most she's done with the computer was doing genealogy
NB>> messages on Prodigy... as far as I know she's not even doing
NB>> e-mail... she left all that technology stuff to my uncle...

RH> My dad has been the one doing the technology stuff too, but has been
RH> doing much less of it the past year or so. I did send him an e-mail a
RH> couple of weeks ago and got a one sentence reply a few days later. I
RH> think now most of the time he's on the computer, he's playing Free Cell.

That can be addicting... and he probably doesn't have the energy he used
to, physical or possibly even mental...

NB>> And now, you just have to get the new kitchen in
NB>> order, and you'll be cooking back to normal again...

RH> It'll be a few weeks before the kitchen is in order. I'm hoping to
RH> have everything basically in place by Christmas, fine tuning placements
RH> over the rest of the time we're in the house.

That sounds like a possible timeline. ;) Fine-tuning is ongoing... :)
