And it's mostly the produce department that I have
issues with. The meat and seafood aren't as well-stocked
as the ones in the true east, but one can always get
enough good stuff. Funny thing - this second-rank
Weggie's gets busloads of tourists every day - the
people from Russia, Central Europe, China, and even
Japan have never seen anything quite so wonderful. I am
told secondhand that the Japanese tourists actually like
the sushi (which I turn my nose up at).

As I recall it's spread out with nonperishables at one side
and perishables in the wayback. It's a fairly large section
(modest selection, lots of merchandise).

I'm not familiar with Lori's. What I know by that name is a
diner in California that serves mediocre at best food.

I'm guessing that the journalist (fantasist, actually)
who compiled the list lives in Missoula and is trying to
get some free stuff out of this.

I don't recall much, a bit of queasiness in Scotland that
was easily remedied by the local "strong water."

Yeah, the immune issue is real. Fly over there, don't get
enough sleep, drink too much, and kapow, you're a virus
nightclub.

Problem is that Lilli is much more prone to that kind of
concern than am I, and if I got sick, she'd already be
incapacitated.

Lamb and Barley Soup 
categories: Nepal, Sherpa, stew
Yield: 1 batch

1 c barley
1 lb lamb, 1/4" thick slices (1/2" long)
4 c mushrooms, thinly sliced
1 c chopped tomatoes
1/4 lb spinach, washed and torn into small pieces
1 c chopped onions
3 Tb soy sauce
1 ts garlic, minced
1 ts ginger, minced
1 ts turmeric
3 Tb butter
Salt and Pepper
5 c lamb broth or water as required

In a nonstick saucepan, heat butter. Add onions and
saute until lightly browned. Season lamb with salt
and pepper and add to the onion mixture; brown well.
Add mushroom to the lamb mixture and saute for 5 min
or so over low heat. Add garlic, ginger, and turmeric;
stir for 1 min. Add tomatoes, soy sauce, and broth.
Increase the heat; bring to a boil and add barley;
stir well. Lower the heat and simmer 1 hr until the
barley grains and lamb are tender and a desired
consistency of the soup has been achieved. At last,
add spinach to the soup and wilt it. Serve hot.
