NB>> When I'm getting my iron infusion, I want that last 3ml of the
 NB>> (somewhat smaller) bag... ;)
ML> The standard dose is administered with a bag of fluid, is it
 ML> not?

Not usually. In the case of the iron, it's in it's own little pouch,
kinda like a blood transfusion. They sometimes hang a bag of fluid to
either somewhat dilute it as it goes in (both feed at the same time) or
to chase the last bits in at the end...

ML> Even if it's the smallest bag, 100, you still get over
ML> 97% - 107/110 if the Internet tells true, plus the last few
ML> mL are going to be more dilute than average. The small
ML> numbers that people generally deal with, compared with the
ML> relatively large human body, makes the benefit of squeezing
ML> that last few ions out not worth the effort.

When they inject a medication into a bag, yes, that would be more the
case... ;) I've seen that more with antibiotics, or other drugs they
wanted to administer over a longer period of time. :)

ML> Abundances of caution often go too far, and when they
ML> cancel out both common sense and experimental knowledge,

Indeed... and, Quite.

ML>> Allopurinol, as I recall, used to be part of the chemo
ML>> cocktail in the '50s or '60s for I think leukemia.
NB>> Interesting... Did they decide it wasn't effective there, or just
NB>> found better(ish) drugs since then...?
ML> It went with 6-MP, something my father used to work with,
ML> so that's why I remembered; but I don't think that it was
ML> as effective as other co-drugs. I just did a curiosity
ML> search on Google and found that 6-MP isn't used so much
ML> any more itself (I never figured out the role of
ML> immunosuppressants in cancer therapy anyway).

Doesn't make a lot of sense... nowadays the trend is more to try to
build up the immune system so the the body isn't as devastated by the
chemo as the cancer (hopefully) is... The thought might have been along
the line of the administration of immunosuppressants with transplants,
but that doesn't really follow along well, either...

NB>>> With any luck, the body will settle in, and things will have gone
NB>>> back to (somewhat) normal... ;)
 ML>> If not, too sad.
NB>> I'm wishing at least survival for you... if not much much better... ;)
ML> Well, thanks, I wish that for you and all my friends
 ML> (and even most nonfriends).

Ok, ok... I'd wish it on most, too... ;) You know what I meant, I
think... :)
