Hi Nancy,

RH> But they've both been up to Mount Charleston to play in deeper snow.

NB> Being close enough, that makes sense, too... A nice experience for
 NB> kids... ;)

Yes, the year Rachel was 4, we went up from NC to NY for Christmas. Got
to Steve's folks after dark, told her she could play in the snow the
next day. it turned warmer and rainy overnight, no snow the rest of the
trip. One disappointed kid but she's seen quite a bit of snow since
then.

RH> I'd rather not live in the Phoenix area; I'd rather live in the
RH> southeastern corner of the state (in the area where we did live). Got
RH> some good restaurants down there. (G) It's also about 15-20 degrees
RH> cooler than the Phoenix area, year round.

NB> The heat of the Phoenix area is what finally convinced our son that he
NB> didn't really want to stay there forever... ;)

He should have checked out other parts of the state.

NB> RH>> My grandmother and mom would usually have the meal around
 NB> 1:30-ish. NB>> I think Richard's mom set it for about 2... that put
 NB> dessert at
NB> NB>> about an early supperish time... :)

RH> We always had it right after the meal, which doesn't make a lot of
RH> sense unless you wanted to get all the dishes washed up at once. I
RH> think that was my mom (and grandmothers) reasoning.

NB> I'd help Mom with the dishes after the meal... and we'd do the dessert
NB> dishes after everyone else had left.. :) There was no point in
NB> trying to eat dessert right away, since everyone was full to the
 NB> gills, and
NB> things needed to at least settle, to say nothing of digest... ;)

It does make more sense to let the main part of the meal settle before
dessert. I never knew why my mom and her mom didn't see that, didn't
question it as a kid either because I had to go with what the grown ups
wanted. I've served dessert some time after the main meal when I cooked
dinner, disrupting the family "tradition".

NB> RH>> Overall, yes. I'm going to treat myself to a Krispy Kreme
NB> doughnut RH>> tomorrow morning and work the carbs off all day.
NB> NB>> Somewhere along the line, I lost my taste for doughnuts... when
 NB> I NB>> finally had a chance to taste a KK, I wasn't terribly
 NB> impressed... :)

RH> I'm not impressed but they are sugar fuel for these days I've been
RH> putting in a lot of work. They've pulled the machinery out of most
RH> stores now so they aren't as fresh/hot off the line as they used to
 RH> be.

NB> Never had one fresh off the line... that might have made a little
NB> difference... ;) I know that the chinese doughnuts fresh from the
NB> kitchen are the best they can possibly be... ;) Those are the only
NB> ones I eat any more, when at all... :)

We usually don't do doughnuts but got these in anticipation of the
moving crew coming in. The crew was smaller than expected so we had left
overs, which are now gone. I probably won't have another one for years.

NB> RH>> I'll probably look during the winter too. The boots aren't
NB> really RH>> snow boots but will work if I'm on cleared paths. I do
 NB> have some
NB> RH>> snow boots, actually bought them at the Dick's Sporting Goods
NB> shop RH>> up in one of the malls in your area 4 years ago.
NB> NB>> And in Wake Forest, you don't have much need for snow boots
 NB> generally NB>> anyway... ;)

 RH> There are times..................................but I got them
RH> mostly for the times we head up north during the winter months.

NB> You'd more likely need them then, true... :) I know, sometimes you
NB> do get some snow, and it's better to be prepared... :)

Better to be safe, and have warm feet, than to be sorry, have cold feet
and slip/fall.

Catch you later,
Ruth
