Since the '70s at least there have been ear protections
that attenuate louder noises but allow speech and soft
sounds to be heard. These were always pretty expensive,
and I guess one might not have expected the army to
pay for them - though the manufacturer, Norton, was a
military contractor.

Luckily short-term exposure usually causes only
short-term damage. One other effect of that thumping
bass is ... impotence. So one can look forward to the
next generation of these people being less numerous.

I'm not a milk chocolate person; I hope that your

So I stay with this conductor friend who lives a mile from
the factory, do a bunch of gigs, and spend the money on the
chocolate.

I gave a ladyfriend a pair of earrings and will buy dinner
at Black's BBQ for Lilli. That's the entire rest of it I
think. I underbought on the chocolate, so if I see the
Shipps before springtime, I'll have to bring them something
else.

Good food, good value. If the local place does the job,
by all means.

Speaking of which, Annie says she hates chains, but two
days ago Bill took us to Margaritaville, where I discovered
that 1. Annie likes this particular chain; 2. I don't like
chains; 3. I can't stand Jimmy Buffett's out-of-tune singing.

Holiday breakfast frittata
cat: breakfast, main, airline, pork
servings: 6 to 8

12 lg eggs
1 oz water
1 ts Kosher salt
1/2 ts white pepper
2 oz EVOO
4 oz prosciutto, 1/4" dice
8 oz Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled
- 1/2" dice
1 c shredded Gruyere
2 scallions, sliced thin

Oven at 400F.

Whisk eggs with water, salt, pepper.

Heat oil in ovenproof 9" based pan over medium heat.
Saute prosciutto and potaatoes until potatoes are
softened and prosciutto is browned. Drain excess fat
and spread mixture over the pan. Sprinkle cheese
over potato mixture and let stand until cheese
begins to melt. Pour eggs over. Place pan in oven
and bake until eggs are set, 8-10 min.

Cool 5-10 min and sprinkle with scallions. Cut into
wedges and serve.
