==================
ML>> pink-looking slaw. (Red cabbage tends to tint
 ML>> mayo dressing pink.)
NB>> I'd think a pinkish slaw could be rather pretty... ;)
ML> Were it a reasonably consistent pinkish, maybe, but
ML> I doubt that red cabbage runs to order.
NB> Oh probably not... but I suppose one could just mix it well before
NB> serving, and even it out mostly... ;)

Then one would just be able to watch it bleed.

ML> Someone said that once, I think a physician, not recently,
ML> though. I've had this week in Florida and have slept through
 ML> much of it -
NB> Sleep is not a bad thing at all at this stage of things... although it
NB> can be rather disheartening if one was expecting to do all sorts of
 NB> fun things instead, admittedly...

Annie complained that I wasn't chipper and perky (actually
was kind of grumpy) and didn't eat like I was supposed to.

I'm back in Williamsport now and expected to eat like a
man - still not feeling up to it, though.

ML> friend who is a public health doc (and can say
ML> things that regular docs don't) said that she estimated that
ML> it would be 6 months to get back to normal - not what I
 ML> particularly want to hear.
NB> As a friend, she probably feels freer than the regular docs, too..
NB> and probably has a better feel for what you are at normal... but maybe
NB> she's overestimating things a little... You did, though, stress that
 NB> body pretty badly...

Probably going to see her this week - she's in Williamsport
too.

 ML> I basically can't move my arms
ML> without considerable discomfort, pretty weird.
NB> Ya know, that's probably those abused veins complaining still...

Might be, but it was more than that - joint pain and muscle
pain as well. So many things are different that it's almost
as though they switched out bodies on me (though this one
looks pretty much the same).

ML> I actually have been diagnosed with possible tuberculosis,
ML> self-contained and long in the past - there are old lesions
ML> in my lungs, but the person who found this decided that it
ML> hadn't been an important occurrence, so no fuss was made
ML> about it, and if it were further investigated and became
ML> prominent in my record it might pose problems with my being
 ML> admitted to some countries.
NB> Sounds like something to leave alone, for sure... And if it is long
NB> past, and not at all active, it shouldn't be a worry... Old lesions
NB> might have been made by something else, too...

I was supposed to have a set of x-rays, requested by one of
the numerous passing doctors during a past hospitalization,
but that sort of fell through the cracks, no complaints from me.

-=> Nancy Backus said to Jim Weller <=-

JW> Me too. Maybe I'm part Chinese?
NB> We're at least honorary Chinese, anyway... ;)

Sensible Chinese would be happy to number you both among
them. Problem of course is that there are few sensible
Chinese these days.

NB> So what does that say about women that also love spicy food....???

They all say "Ay Carramba" and have enormous Pancho Villa
moustaches.

JW> There is no evidence that the reverse is true, that eating spice
JW> increases testosterone but that hasn't stopped new age quacks and
JW> unscrupulous spice merchants from setting up shopping websites.
NB> And, no, can't say that eating spice got me where I am... that was
NB> diagnosed long before I got into eating as spicy as I do now... ;)
NB> Quacks and the unscrupulous seize on anything, don't they...? ;)

Did you see that some obsessive soul did a scorecard on Dr. Oz?
Turns out he flunks close to 50% of the time. I sort of guessed
that when Ruth the second cited him for something, and I remembered
him saying pretty much the opposite on another occasion; looking
both up, it turns out that he contradicted himself, whoops.

Skirlie
cats: Scots, starch, side
serves: 4 to 6

2 c medium oatmeal
2 c onions, finely chopped
4 oz grated suet or 4 Tb good dripping
freshly ground pepper

... It is also known as Mealie Pudding in some parts of
Scotland, where it is steamed in a greased basin for 1 hr
before being turned out. Small spoonfuls are often rolled
into balls and cooked in boiling soup like dumplings ...

Melt suet or dripping in a very hot pan. Add onions, brown
lightly. Stir in oatmeal to make a fairly thick mixture.
Keep stirring 5 to 7 min on gentle heat until totally
cooked. Season to taste.
