I still classify it in the Southern Comfort genre - a
child's introduction to liquor. There are a lot of child's
introduction to things, some of which I enjoy on occasion
- pate for liver, Singapore for Asia, Moscato for wine.
I do sometimes revel in my sort of terminal juvenileness.

I appreciate them but only when in one of "those" moods.
Generally I prefer the drier Germanic schnappses, or even
better, cut to the chase with neat brandy or whiskey or
whisky, even after dinner.

  But they

 JW> dessert. Or as a minor secondary flavour in a cocktail with the

A modest amount, sure. The secondary flavor I see most
useful is a half teaspoon of orange liqueur to disguise
the off flavor or augment the nonflavor of a cheap American
or Canadian Bourbonoid substance if the condition of my
pocketbook doesn't allow for better. Others, mostly the
value is of novelty or variation.

An excellent choice, one that perhaps I will emulate later
on this damp and misty Christmas eve.

Or perhaps not. I have no objection to Yellowknife, as you
know, nor to extreme cold in small doses; but half or two
thirds of an hour in that magic -40 (F or C, the uninitiated
might ask), not for me. Oh, one interesting effect of my
hospitalizations this fall (3, totalling a bit over 2 weeks)
is that I feel cold all the time now.

I'd see Black Velvet or McCormick's in a similar light
under those circumstances.

Wow, interesting. I disagree with the poster's assertion
about divergency being the point. If you're going to refer
to it as Drambuie, it should bear at least a little bit
of a resemblance to same.
