Seems appropriate to me.  :)   I never used strictly rote (except with
my blind student, and for her, I was mostly enrichment, not so much
teaching), always started with teaching notes... but the rote part made
things more interesting for beginners...  The simple rote duets were
also useful for using as a treat for other residents of the group home
where I taught some but not all... I used it as a bribe with one fellow
whose nose got bent out of shape because I was teaching someone and he
couldn't be watching tv in the same room... he was quite musical
naturally, though, so I'd do some of the rote duets with him after
lessons for the others, and all was fine... he got his bit, too. :)

All the shoulda, coulda, maybes..  ;)  Some days all the alternate
possibilities appear... but who knows if that would have been better
than the road actually taken...
