I can see that this mechanism might be helpful for kids and the
extremely infirm, but otherwise this untrained eye doesn't
see the point.

For me, dietary solutions didn't work. Low-dose metformin
worked to my satisfaction but not that of the doc; doubling
the dose probably has helped the numbers but worsened my
quality of life and the atmosphere around me.

Tried cinnamon, numbers sagged but didn't really drop. I am
guessing that I'll be as refractory to natural medications
as to unnatural ones.

It's a search that yields only a single result on Google.
Sometimes there's a restriction that the search itself
consist of a single word. I didn't know the name of the
phenomenon until Weller enlightened me a couple years ago.

At MGH it was mostly the aides who did this stuff. But
perhaps they are more rigorously trained than the ones
hired by the agencies.

Hospice is a funny place. They worry about these things in a
different way - you get to spend your last days in this warm
and stress-free environment, provided you do nothing to get
better; and if by some unlucky chance you do get better, it's
back out into the cruel world for you. So happy-making drugs
are okay, but meds designed to make you live longer are not.

      Title: Hot Spice Mix
 Categories: Indian, Condiment
   Servings:  6

    1/4 c  Cumin seeds
      8    Dried red chiles
      1 tb Black peppercorns
      1 tb Cardamom seeds
      1    Inch cinnamon sticks,
           -crushed
      1 tb Plus 1 tsp black mustard
           -seeds
      1 tb Fenugreek seeds

  Put all spices in a heavy skillet and dry roast over medium heat 5 to 10
  minutes, until browned, stirring constantly. Cool completely, then grind to
  a fine powder in a coffee grinder or with a pestle and mortar. Store in an
  airtight container up to 2 months.
