Rochester is a lot like Columbia, except that it has to also be the "big
city" since there isn't a really big place like NYC that close (which
isn't that big of a problem usually)... and I guess our population is
greater than yours, too...  ;)  No deer or bear in our yard, either, but
plenty of wildlife all the same, even though we are well within the city
limits... and the larger wildlife are available within a mile or so of
our house...  :)

Growing up, I lived in all sorts of different size towns and cities..
never rural, although our house in Jackson MS was on the edge of town
(literally), and there were fields off the end of our street and behind
our neighbors across the street...

I beat you there, with five states before the age of six... and two more
before Daddy finally stopped here in NY (for a total of eight) for my
last year home as a child... for my senior year of high school... I've
never figured out quite what to consider myself...  POB was UofP
hospital, but their apartment was across the river in NJ.  We did come
back for 6 years to the Philly outskirts (Willow Grove), but by then it
wasn't quite long enough to really set down roots... probably the
closest... maybe if I had graduated from high school there instead of
moving again it might have made a difference, dunno...

On the other hand, I can fairly quickly assimilate wherever I might be,
and in a ridiculously short time be accepted as a native...  ;)  I've
had people up at the Pond trying to figure out which of the St Lawrence
County towns I must have grown up in... obviously not theirs or they
would have known me growing up, but probably the next one over... (G)
