==================
Hi Nancy,

RH> those in the class. A good half or more of the 63 were within a 25 mile
RH> radius of Margaretville. Some of them had not been out of the state
RH> until our senior trip to DC.

NB> I've seen that lots of places we've been... Richard has only lived in
NB> NYS, although in various parts thereof... :)

Did he ever live in the Catskills?

RH> You lived in several different states before you even graduated from
RH> high school; I went to the same school, same building even, for all
 RH> 13 years.

NB> Quite true.. :) You've seen more of the world, and lived in
NB> different states over the country, in your adult life... but I had the
NB> experience of living in totally different parts of the country growing

Did your parents ever acquire a taste for local foods and add them to
their home cooking or did you wait until you got out on your own to try
new foods?

NB> up.. East, West, Central, South and North... :) Never settled in my
NB> accent, or my culture, just assimilated as I went along... made it
NB> easy to assimilate from friends and acquaintances later on, and from
 NB> whatever I was exposed to... ;)

We assimilated parts--some words have entered our vocabulary that we
picked up in various assignments. Also, as you know, various local foods
are now part of our regular eating. I don't think Steve picked up any
sort of accent but I have more of a southern one. I didn't realise how
much of one I had until we were in HI and I was questioned about it. (G)

NB> NB>> Some day... :) That was something that I liked about my solo
NB> trips, NB>> where I set my own schedule... nobody but me to worry
NB> about, if I NB>> wanted to work late, or eat whenever... ;) And
NB> spur-of-the-moment NB>> decisions to stop in to a museum or
 NB> whatever... ;)

RH> Some trips are fun to do with a companion also. You can bounce ideas
RH> of where to go, eat, etc off of each other. You also have a companion
RH> for meals; it's more enjoyable to eat with someone than by yourself.

NB> Or to have someone to share the exciting discoveries with... That was
NB> indeed part of the joy of doing the genealogy trips with Mom... we
NB> could put our heads together to solve the genie puzzles, too... As

That must have been fun as you were working on the same family for the
most part. I presume you did some research on your birth family while on
some of the trips with your MIL, but mostly they were Backus family
research?

NB> there's compatibility, I'll agree with the more enjoyable to eat with
NB> someone... but it's also nice to eat what one wants... ;) Fortunately
NB> Richard and I tend to be compatible that way, too... He just isn't
NB> into the trip thing so much, though... :)

We can usually find some place we can agree on for meals, and sometimes
even figure we want to split a certain meal. Other times we agree on
where to go, but both want a different meal.(G)

NB> NB>> Rob was a little envious, but he's had lots of other experiences
NB> that NB>> I've not had, so we are pretty much even... :)

RH> A big family means that more than one person usually has the
RH> opportunity to see/try different things. One of my younger sisters and
RH> younger brother went to Italy on a 3 week study tour in high school.
RH> Neither one has been out of the country except to Canada (while living
RH> at home) otherwise. Other than Canada, I never got out of the USA until
RH> about 3 months before I got married. We never thought we'd travel much,
RH> then Steve joined the Army and, as they say, the rest is history.

 NB> One just doesn't know... :)

No, and that adds to the equation.

NB> NB>> Fun to take the wind out of sails, but that doesn't happen
NB> much... NB>> But you certainly one-uped the braggart there... ;)

 RH> T'was the truth. (G)

 NB> True. ;) Still fun... ;)

She couldn't argue the point, tho I think she wanted to.

NB> NB>> No matter where you are, people have to eat something... ;)

RH> Like breathing, a basic, necessary part of living.

 NB> Indeed.

Quit doing either one and your days are limited.

Catch you later,
Ruth
