NB>>> Of course, yours was your own decision how much to ingest for
 NB>>> testing purposes...
ML>> True enough; plus I was pretty convinced that the 1000th or
ML>> 100000th milligram would carry about the same appeal as the
 ML>> first.
NB>> And in that case, it probably was an accurate assessment...
ML> I have recently been informed that the seal meat was
ML> not in proper condition. As it was, I don't see any
ML> amount of treatment or spice doing much to help.

Might you try it again, if assured that it was indeed in proper
condition another time...? :)

NB>>> the ghost pepper wings in question were someone else
NB>>> putting the milligrams into the batter... And that puts the blame for
NB>>> the cheating more on the company than on the individual who thought
NB>>> they got bragging rights... ;)
ML>> Whereas in the case of ghost peppers, that's not quite true.
NB>> True... had there been more of it, it might really have packed a
 NB>> wallop...

ML> I will (someday) go to Popeye's and see what the fuss is about.

As long as it's still available by the time you get there... ;)

ML> Problem is that fried chicken thighs are about as good a
ML> food as you can have, and Popeye's version is usually
ML> pretty close to the top of the heap. So I'll be making a
ML> sacrifice to test out the new product. It's not like the
ML> olden days when if a meal didn't please me I could afford
ML> the stomach and pocketbook space to just have another.

A single thigh is available there... and only a couple bucks.. ;)

NB>>> Is that any Ivy League college or any college (for H-Y-P club)... and
NB>>> is yours a male-only club or does it also allow females...? ;)
ML>> Any college, for both. And women are now allowed in both,
NB>> Ah... Probably costs more than a lowly peon could afford, though...?
ML> Mine is pretty reasonable, couple hundred a year, deductible
ML> as a professional expense. The more university-grounded groups,
ML> having to have a kitchen staff and so on, have what I consider
ML> excessive dues - in the hundreds per month with food minimums.

Yours does seem a little more so... the uni-grounded ones are about what
I was expecting... And just what benefits does such a club afford...?

ML> The H-Y-P club (I just looked it up), in addition to allowing
ML> all sorts of riffraff in an effort to survive has slashed dues
ML> to 65 a month with a 50 minimum and also eliminated the
 ML> initiation fee.

Still rather pricy to my view, but in perspective, also shows their
desperation... ;) I think this riffraff will just give it a bye... ;)

ML>> mine officially since 1985 (I was a member of the class of
ML>> 1986 or 1987, depending on whom you ask), but in fact
NB>> Are you that much younger than I, or did it take you that much longer
NB>> to make it through...? I was class of 72 for college, at least that's
NB>> when I finally finished with a degree...
ML> I was referring to my club class: my school class was '73; I
 ML> had enough credits to get my A.B. in '72 but did not do so;
ML> I also for reasons beyond my understanding would have been
ML> eligible to declare myself a member of '74.

Ah. I didn't realize that the clubs also had classes... nor am I
familiar with how they work. :)

ML>> Luise Vosgerchian had been an ex officio member since 1974
ML>> (whether she had taken advantage of this status in any way is
 ML>> not so clear).
 NB>> Who was she..?

ML> The chair of the Harvard music department, first woman to
 ML> have that position.

Ah. Is your club specifically for Harvard musicians, or more widely
Harvard... at least, that is, as originally set up...?

NB>> It was just on the news within the last week or so, that he'd been
NB>> convicted for that Silk Road narco ring... I think maybe only a quick
NB>> in passing on NPR headlines (which is all I hear on the classical
NB>> station here)... but I heard the Silk Road mention and noted it...
NB>> Case in point for what you were saying.. :)
ML> I still haven't bothered to look that stuff up. Maybe I will
ML> someday, but what import does that have to me?

Probably no import at all... ;) Curiosity, possibly...

ML>> But reasonable is in the eye of the beholder. I am sure that
ML>> there are those who appreciate money laundering (according to
ML>> Dirty Dave) who do not appreciate music.
NB>> Never know... remember your thugs... ;) But, true, it conjures up
NB>> different things to different people... to one, it's the cultural
NB>> exchange, to another, the exotic in drug-induced atmospheres...
ML> I know some people who don't appreciate music, and I think
ML> they're thugs ... most of them, though, look more respectable
ML> than I do, and I sometimes take some flak when I voice that
 ML> opinion.

I hear you. Totally. :)
