My sleep would have been good were it not for my room
being climatically challenged; I did get maybe four
hours in the end, enough anyhow.

I'd like to say that I woke to the tantalizing aromas of
breakfast sausage and eggs over easy, but in fact I beat
everyone up and made do with a chew off the leftover
ribeyes and ended up making said breakfast, using sausage
from the local butcher Tony and Wegmans extra jumbo eggs.

Tony runs a hugely thriving business out on the east part
of town, selling butcher's meat, charcuterie, and baked
goods. I used to prefer his competitor Don Woltman, whose
shop is cool and quiet and empty and one wonders how he
stays afloat, but then there was the affair of the unstuffed
pork chops, in which he lost Annie's business forever -
we ran into Don at one of the restaurants he supplies,
and Annie asked for four of his famous stuffed pork chops,
double cut, and when we went to pick them up that afternoon, 
they were double cut as requested but not stuffed or even
pocketed, with no stuffing in the joint to make it right.
So we ended up stuffing the chops using stuffing made from
her memory, and Annie realized that she didn't have to
pay a premium for Don's stuffing, and in the last four years
she's been going to Tony's instead. Tony's sausage is of
the freshest pork but a bit too lean and ground a bit to
fine. This doesn't seem to bother anyone else.

The Wegmans eggs were very jumbo, and one was bigger than
any chicken egg I've ever seen; I accused it of being a duck
egg, which grossed Annie out; she told me to throw it away.
I didn't - served it to her instead.

I had a couple sausages - no eggs - and a few more bites
of steak. Grapefruit juice.

After chewing the figurative fat (I wouldn't give anyone
any literal fat, saving it for myself), we prepared for our
day's trip, a manageable hundred miles and change. We got
going a bit after ten. 

The trip up was a couple apparently painless hours, up US 15
(the future I-99 corridor, say the signs) to 17 to 13 and
Ithaca and finally the welcoming sight of Slaterville Springs.

We hauled in some of our stash: Genny cream ale, Pilsner
Urquell, which surprisingly several people had not heard of,
Mike's Hard cranberry lemonade for Gail, and various Abita
products for Dale.

We were met by the Kracht family - Ron, Janis, and three
dogs, the latter far better behaved than last time - and a
gluten-free lactose-free vanilla cake with lemon icing made
using almond milk and almond flour: a bit denser than your
usual wheat flour cake, but I prefer this to crumbly cake
anyhow. Matt and apparently the cats were upstairs, and we
didn't see them until later.

Lunch - cold cut sandwiches: provolone and Swiss; two kinds
of salami; cotto ham; and a strangely sugar-brined but sort
of moreish roast beef. I was rarin' to cook, but it was hot
and there didn't seem to be any demand yet for hot food.

Socializing followed by dinner: Janis made burgers with onions
- 93% lean organic beef mixed with a good glugg of olive oil
bringing the percentage down to the sensible 80s, with some
chopped sweet onion. Great with beer.

We turned in, or at least some of us did, at a reasonable hour.
