==============================
Hi Michael,

RH> We're no where near affluent enough to be able to afford NYC.

ML> There are ways of "doing" New York without breaking the
ML> bank. One can stay at a perfectly respectable hotel in
ML> Joisey for cheap (meaning $100 a night), finding one with
ML> free parking and a shuttle to the train station. The NJT
ML> train is probably about $5 into town. Of course, there's
ML> nothing free in Manhattan any more but Central Park, but
ML> one can always go for senior or retired military discounts.
ML> Food? Eat in the suburbs, or do the street food thing, or
ML> sandwiches at, say, Papaya King. Or Chinese food, always a
ML> good bet. Or uptown around Columbia (or farther, if you
ML> are feeling adventurous and ironclad).

We'll probably hold off for a bit, have some other travelling planned.

RH> Wouldn't mind seeing a Broadway show, just for the experience, if we
RH> could afford it, and found the right show. Also, if I had the money, a

ML> Well. There's the half-price ticket booth TKTS, where the
ML> tickets are no longer half price, plus there's a service
ML> charge. Last time I went to the Twyla Tharp production
ML> based on Sinatra songs called "Come Fly with Me" - it
ML> cost about $100 a head, even at TKTS with discounts. You
ML> can try for rush seats in the nosebleed section (something
ML> I can't consider for eyesight issues) by showing up at the
ML> theater the day of a performance.

I'd want seats closer in too. I don't know what's on B'way now, if
there's anything worth going to see or not.

RH> swing thru the garment district for sewing stuff could be a fun trip.

ML> That I'd not know anything about!

OTOH, I could spend a day and a lot of $$ just in a small portion of the
district. And, I know what to go for in it as well.

ML> that I go there maybe once a year, see a couple museums,
ML> dine a couple times with friends, and then out of there
ML> about as fast as my wings can take me.
RH> And you don't have to worry about traffic, since you're not driving.

ML> Who is it whose slogan was "leave the driving to us"?

Greyhound, IIRC. I've come in to and out of the Port Authority via bus
several times.

ML> Sensible people don't drive in the city. I once conned
ML> the Shipps into taking me to Aura's house, but that was
ML> late at night, and there wasn't so much traffic.

ML> But time before last when I was on the bus to Manhattan
ML> it took an hour just to get across town to Port Authority.

The city is not a fun place to drive in.

RH> Curry ketchup? It's not my favorite condiment either. As far as it
RH> goes, I don't use much regular ketchup either.

ML> I wish the Germans would stick with native foods that they
ML> know about - kebabs and pilaf and stuff like that. Currywurst
ML> is more worst than curry.

It's the wurst of the curry? (G)

RH> Tempting, but I think I'd rather have a biscuit with it and eat higher
RH> protein the rest of the day. I'd rather not have that much milk, even
RH> with a pill or 2; I just don't care for the taste of regular milk that
 RH> much any more.

ML> I just imagine that it's sausage chowder and suck it up and
ML> do the pills thing. The best commercial version I've had is
ML> at the Sheraton in Anchorage, where Lilli gets free breakfast
ML> for two (only if she's staying there of course). It's real
ML> white sauce made from scratch using sausage drippings, with
ML> large knobs of sagey pork sunk in the pot. I'd generally get
ML> a cereal bowl and fill it with the stuff, and that would be
ML> breakfast, and lunch, too, if I had seconds. Last time we were
ML> there, there was no ladle in the pot, so I inquired of the
ML> staff, who said, we're out of biscuits, so we didn't bother.
ML> I looked funny at the bearer of these news, and he said, oh,
ML> yeah, you could use a waffle, and went off and got a big
ML> serving spoon. I did my usual; unfortunately, though it was
ML> good, it wasn't like usual and not good enough for me to want
ML> to squander the pills for a second bowlful.

It's tempting, but I'll pass for now. I've had enough carbs already
today.
