Didn't happen. We're supposed to get < 1" this weekend and
another < 1" next weekend (after I am gone, so in any case
I won't be present at the historic occasion), bringing the
total to tantalizingly close to the record.

Beats me. I hypothesize that there was an Amtrak sale that
he was trying to find an excuse for taking advantage of. But
that may just be me being cynical and mistrustful of everything
he does at all times.

Remember too that it may be as much lack of opportunity as
lack of interest - for the subsequent 12 years I've not seen
him more than maybe 30 days a year, which I believe is
mutually agreeable - certainly it works for me.

Being paymaster, rather. Remember the checks were locked
in the band room. As for my brother, I have no idea, as
he didn't offer any feedback, and the e-mail has been
blessedly (or ominously?) silent.

I've given up pretty much on that aspect of the game.

At 5, the boil happens as quickly as it did on high on
the electrics I grew up with. At 4, no boil at all. It
seems that the thing has been engineered to simulate
the response of gas as much as possible.

Nah, and you'd have to use a flat-bottomed wok on the
element, and that's not a proper wok anyhow. Rosemary's
is the only one I've had satisfactory high high heat on,
partially as one of the burners is double-strength and
partially because her house doesn't have smoke detectors
in the kitchen or dining room. Annie has a very snazzy
stove, but I can't make full use of it in the winter,
when the windows are sealed shut, as her smoke detectors
are altogether too close.

10 here provides good but not ideal stir-fry heat.

Mina De Carne Filling
categories: Passover, pie filling, Turkish
Yield: filling for an 8- or 9-inch mina

2 Tb extra virgin olive oil
2 c finely chopped yellow onions (3 md)
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground lamb
2 ts kosher salt, or more to taste
freshly ground black pepper
1 ts sugar
1/2 c coarsely chopped flat leaf (Italian) parsley
1/2 c coarsely chopped dill leaves
28 oz cn crushed tomatoes
5 lg eggs, lightly beaten

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high
heat for 1 minute, or until it is hot but not
smoking. Add the onions and cook until soft and
somewhat transparent, 7 to 10 min.

Add the meats, salt, black pepper, and sugar and
cook until brown, about 10 min (stir occasionally
and mash with a fork to cook pieces).

Lower to medium heat, add the parsley and dill,
and mix well. Cook 5 min.

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and mix well. Bring
to a slow boil over high heat and cook 3 min,
then lower the heat to medium and cook an
additional 7 to 10 min.

Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
Mix in the beaten eggs and proceed with the Basic
Mina Template recipe.
