These aren't strictly allergies, because they don't
involve the immune system in the way normal ones do.
I've had food allergies as well, but those have been
shed over the decades, outgrown or something. Speaking
of which, I can have a few tablespoons of milk or an
ounce of cheese without too much distress now. Saves
the embarrassing oops and the hasty but too late
administration of a lactase pill. It's funny, because
people who have known me for a long time continue to
warn me about dairy products (some misunderstand the
concept and the definition and warn me about eggs, too)
and are gobsmacked when I eat a bite of ice cream
[i]before[/i] I take my pills. Edited to add that I
just now had a dairy dish and what I thought was
sufficient pills, and I'm sick as a dog (how did that
saying come about?), so I spoke too soon.

 DS> Maggiano's Italian restaurant.  We told the waitress about her
 DS> sensitivity to pepper.  The waitress had the sous chef come out and
 DS> discuss dishes that she might be able to better tolerate.

Not only is this response humane, sensible, and tolerant,
the restaurant's lawyers would approve.

Here's a belated tribute to Pi Day, yesterday, 3/14/15.
I tried to do my posts at 9:00 and shortly after, but
it appears the time stamped by Blue Wave is different
from the system time on the computer, and I can't figure
why. It appears there are several independent clocks
running.

Savory tomato pie
categories: completely different, main, not a pizza
servings: 6 to 8

2 rounds pie dough
2 1/2 lb large, ripe tomatoes
3 scallions, chopped
2 Tb chopped dill
1 1/2 ts Kosher salt
1/2 ts pepper
8 oz grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese

Roll a round of chilled dough into an 11" circle. Lift
the dough into a 9" pie plate, then fold overhang. Chill.

Preheat the oven to 425F with a baking sheet on the
middle rack. Core and slice the tomatoes and toss with
scallions, dill, salt, and pepper. Alternate layers of
tomatoes and cheese, topping with cheese.

Roll out the other round of dough and top the pie. Crimp
the edges and cut a circle of slices around so steam can
escape. Bake pie on the sheet until crust is golden and
filling is bubbling, 35 to 45 min. Let cool.

M would avoid the dill and use just about anything else.
