Seems that each year there's always been something new to add to the
complexity... I've had the redeeming shares of a mutual fund before, but
our advising firm always sends us paperwork that does the cost basis
calculations so I only have to transfer it to the IRS forms... At one
point, we purposely took a capital gains loss, since the funds we'd been
in had lost a lot... that's been covering any gains for the last few
years...  This year's new thing for us was the health premium tax
credit, of which Richard had received advance payments to reduce the
monthly premiums from the state exchanges... after the crunchings,
turned out they still owed us a little more credit... a nice thing to
find out.  The instructions and the form were a bit scary, but the
actual doing turned out to be easy enough... :)

That sounds like quite the project...!  Good thing you are in your own
place and not likely to move, now that you are adding to your
workshop... :)
