Hi Ruth,

 RH> > RH> > RH> did score a Bob Cousy autograph. (NBA old

RH> > RH> He was a big Boston Celtics star in the 50s. All

RH> > I did know that much but didn't know much more beyond
 RH> that.

RH> Around here the Celtics are a big deal, so his name is
 RH> known.

No NBA teams in our area; the closest are the Charlotte Hornets but we
don't hear much about them.

RH> > RH> signatures on the covers were hall of fame players
 RH> and
 RH> > RH> coaches.

RH> > All Celtics or other teams as well?

RH> All over the place. College coaches too.

Anything with Dean Smith's name on it now would probably be worth some
money right now.

RH> > RH> > He had a library full of albums but I'd not have
 RH> the
 RH> > RH> slightest idea of
 RH> > RH> > their value.

 RH> > RH> I can answer that - most of it's not worth much
 RH> any more.

RH> > If I understand correctly, there are some pieces of
 RH> value in the
 RH> > collection.

RH> There may well be. Some of the older things can be worth
RH> quite a bit. It's harder to unload the modern items.

But it's not my headache. My younger brother had one so called appraiser
look at the collection--he looked at it to see what he wanted and could
try to get at a fire sale price. He didn't get it or the appraisal deal.

RH> > RH> Sure beats buying a new one; similar new chairs
 RH> would be
 RH> > RH> $400 each.

RH> > We've not priced any recently. The last dining table &
 RH> chairs we bought
RH> > were in Leominster, MA when we came back from Berlin in
 RH> 1992. The chairs
RH> > delivered weren't the same ones we saw with the table
 RH> in the store but
RH> > we liked them enough that we didn't bother trying to
 RH> get them exchanged.

 RH> Serendipity rules. Can't say I've ever purchased a
RH> dining room set. We're still using the one Grandma
 RH> bought in 1921.

We bought a dinette set when we moved in NC (pre Army) from a furnished
rental to an unfurnished double wide. I don't remember if we got rid of
it when we moved before Steve went active or before we moved to Germany
but we needed something in 1992 so bought the nicer set. It's showing a
bit of wear & tear now but is still, overall, in pretty good shape.

 RH> > RH> on a lamb and rice
RH> > RH> > diet. Then, it was bit time turn up the nose and
 RH> push
 RH> > RH> the dish away
 RH> > RH> > time.

RH> > RH> Well duh. My two won't eat it either.

RH> > Guess some animals do like it but Sam (our cocker
 RH> spaniel) didn't like
 RH> > lamb either.

RH> My late Max the Cat loved it, but a lot of animals don't.

Max was the exception to the rule then.

RH> > RH> It's been done, but generally receptions are held

RH> > We didn't want an off site reception as we wanted to
 RH> keep it alcohol
RH> > free. Had we gone off site, that would not have been
RH> > involved. Caterers just brought in everything, with
 RH> replenishments and
RH> > the ladies of the church served it up.

RH> Good idea. This one isn't workable any more either. Too
 RH> much iffy equipment.

Are plans in the works for an upgrade? Our church in HI upgraded a
small, barely workable kitchen to a nice commercial one while we were
there. It wasn't huge but was well laid out to make good use of the
space.

RH> > RH> > Yes, but we're losing them next week when he
 RH> takes a
 RH> > RH> full time minister
RH> > RH> > of music position in TN. Sigh!

 RH> > RH> It happens.

 RH> > I know, sigh! He's been with the church since 2008,
 RH> started seminary as
RH> > a music major (full ride scholarships) but changed to
 RH> theology so he
RH> > could ensure the songs he wrote were theologically
 RH> sound/correct.

RH> Good move. There lots of old hymns that aren't.

Even more contemporary. We had a farewell service tonight--lots of
singing followed by a pot luck. I brought a good sized bowl of broccoli
salad and brought home an empty bowl. Steve made a gluten free, dairy
free banana pudding and brought home an empty bowl.

RH> > There are various ways to get cooking lessons, even on
 RH> an informal
 RH> > basis.

RH> It may be other women. I think Dad is a lost cause.

He might pick up some easy do dishes; you never know.

RH> > We had rain a good bit of yesterday which helped a bit.
 RH> I've not gone
RH> > outside yet today so am doing better--until I do go out

RH> It showered here a bit, but it didn't really help.
RH> Humidity makes the MS worse too, so it's kind of a wash.
 RH> (ahem)

We've had a gentle rain most of the afternoon & evening so a lot of
pollen has been washed out of the air. Hopefully the biggest "wave" is
now over and we'll be back to our normal levels soon.

Catch you later,
Ruth
