Hi Ruth,

He sure did... and the thing about him (compared to freaks I have now, which
are two feral kitties from a litter of 4 we adopted from the Ithaca Pet Shelter
:) ) he never ever scratched or bit a person.. no matter what the kids did..
(like my daughter's babydoll carriage) .. we started calling him St. Fred since
no one in our family could ever think of a bad thing he did and he'd obviously
reached sainthood status after he died to hear the tales all of us would remind
each other of about him :) :)

I remember when he died my dad was even so upset.. and he hated cats - he was
Irish-setter man, or no pet LOL. He put Fred in a wooden mahogany box he had,
and buried him under one of his trees in his yard in Warwick, NY where I grew
up..He said Fred deserves the best. I thought that was a trip. I should contact
the owners of that house now and tell them about that saint buried there, but
they probably wouldn't understand :)

Yes, not a "stray" as they wander in your yard.. I remembered seeing the car
rip off at high speed after they left her.. what creeps.

Oops forgot one. this is important y'know Lol.. there was another male calico
named Sprinkle.. my daughter named him hehe

> They sound like a great bunch.

Yes, they were so beautiful :)

That's so neat! My kitty I grew up with when I was a little kid lived to be
18... she died shortly after I got married.. Hmm <g>. I found her when I was
8yrs. old in our basement and she decided I was her person Lol

Fred died of some strange disease the vet couldn't identify.. he said to me at
one point maybe this a form of feline aids because it was devasting his body...
I won't go into gross details, but he had a very rough time with one of his
eyes, and more. Finally with me holding him in my arms, we had him put to sleep
so he didn't suffer any longer. As I held him, I remember how he purred... what
a kitty.

Yeah they sure are... and happily it was one of those situations where you'd
say, "Yeah, but look at how the other guy ended up" <g>

>> Yes and most time without fighting so desperately to
> get to eat the thing the
>> cat wants to eat :)

> Too true. Just pest the human to open the can.

meow meow meow in the morning LOL... we can't figure out why Lola keeps driving
us crazy meowing all the time.. she'll just start sometimes during the day,
sometimes at night (she doesn't care if it's 3AM <grin>)... it's not food, or
water or cat box.. and now it's spring so she can go outside.. it's like she's
looking for someone.. Can't figure it at all :) :)

>> I think just diggers which is fine by me, because I
> hate trimming dog nails..
>> digging works on the nails :)

> It's also natural for the dog. Most dogs will dig if
> allowed.

Yeah it never bothered me.. unless they were trying to dig their way out from
under the fence here :) We have a 5Ft. chain-link fenced section of our yard
for the "kids" <grin>. When I work on my earthboxes (so much easier for me
than a garden) I swear they dig like fury trying to get out to eh... "help" me
LOL

> Mine have brought home dead critters, but always leave
> the prize outside.

Know what you mean there.. fred used to leave snakes, frogs, mice, rats, all
kinds of stuff like that on my backdoor stoop so I could see what a great
hunter he was LOL.. these designer calicos I have now don't do that :) Maybe
the feather was an attempt though <g>

>> if it came in through the back door... for a while the

> Mom actually let the cat in carrying the bird by mistake

Yeah, I had to seriously soap up a kitchen window in our house in Windsor, NY,
because the "bird brains" were seeing the wrong reflections of tree outside
that window.. it was kind of insane for a while 'til I soaped it up with a bar
of soap.

Take care,
Janis
