I can testify from first-hand experience that a blue cat will give you as much
of a tussle as a bass or any other game fish. I was fishing for pan fish in the
tail race of the dam of a local state park, using an ultra light rig (5" whippy
rod and crappie jigs on 1 lb test line) when something big took the jig. I had
no idea what I had but it jumped out the water and tail-walked, dived deep and
really gave me a time trying to land it andnot have the line break. When I got
it on shore I could see that it was a catfish but of a type I had never seen.
Dead white skin with blue freckles and the typical catfish head and barbels
configuration. So, when I packed up to go home I drove past the ranger station
at the Turkey Flats boat launch and asked. Mr. Ranger told me that was the
first blue cat he had seen or heard of at Sangchris - and wanted to know where
I was fishing. Then he was more confused as he didn't know if it came over the
dam or up the stream.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Stuffed Blue Catfish
 Categories: Seafood, Breads, Vegetables, Wine
      Yield: 4 servings

      4    Good-sized catfish; cleaned,
           - skinned
      1 lb Crab meat
      1 pt Oysters
    1/2 lb Salad shrimp
           Seasoned Italian bread
           - crumbs
      1    Lemon
      1 bn Spring onions
           +=OR=+
           Chopped red onion if spring
           - onions not available
      1 cl Garlic
      1 c  White wine

  Steam and chop oysters, mix oyster, crab meat, and shrimp
  with bread crumbs, juice from lemon, chopped onion and
  garlic in bowl.

  Stuff mix in cavity of catfish, sprinkle pinch of zest
  from lemon on fish, add 1/4 cup white wine and wrap in
  aluminum foil, grill on low heat or bake at 325oF/163oC
  for 35 min. (may be longer for bigger fish) till fish
  are done and fork flakey.

  Makes 4 servings
