Likewise, except that only one gets the use, generally.  Saves me having
to write checks to keep a record...

Haven't got anything like that... I don't know as that's available here
anyway... and I usually get my gas at BJ's...

Similar... I had one each, plus, at one time... now the MC was changed
to a Visa by the bank, and the Visa was replaced by an AmEx (and the
original one closed due to inactivity).  I've got two Discover cards, as
they talked me into first getting and then keeping the extra card.. 
Those are used for gas and restaurant purchases during the month, as
they give me a 2% rebate on those purchases, and paid off in full each
month so as not to incur any interest.  The first card (now Visa) is my
oldest card which I'm keeping active, and the AmEx at the moment has the
highest balance as I let my son use it to purchase building supplies and
airline tickets and such... He pays me a more than minimum payment each
month for me to pay off that card... I'd be happier if he got it all
paid off sooner than later, but so far anyway, he hasn't let me down.

Sounds like your credit has been quite well repaired over the years,
then...  ;)  My FICO score is a little lower than yours, and I'm pretty
sure the reason is the higher balance I'm carrying due to my son's use
of my credit... that card has a much higher balance than I'd ever
normally carry...  I've always been pretty careful with my accounts...
