Ärende: Stay at home holiday

The whole family (almost) was here for two weeks up until last
Sunday. It's been a real delight. It all started back on July 6 when
Neekha took a bus from her home in Stony Plain, Alberta up to Fort
McMurray for a short visit with her Aunt Raine. Raine then took two
days to drive here with Neekha, Alex and Charlee. Her husband Lyle
flew in a few days later. Meanwhile Raine's long time friend Rhonda
flew into town the first weekend for three days to attend a high
school homecoming and Ray flew in the second weekend for a wedding.
They all stayed here at the house, which was crowded but both
fun and economical. We also had Neekha's best friend in Yellowknife,
Jamie, stay over fairly often. The only people missing were Ray's
girlfriend and her three kids as they were all off to her parents in
Calgary at the same time.

Chuck has been a busy boy since the divorce so Alex now has a brand
new baby half brother here. She got to see him while she was here.
Young Caleb is apparently "totally cute". And Alex is now Facebook
friends with the mom so she can watch Caleb grow up.

Charlee also really wanted to visit her three brothers and her birth
mom and was really disappointed that recent emails and phone calls
to her were not returned.

Just about everyone from Charlee up is an accomplished cook and/or
baker, each with their own style so we all took turns and eating
well. Charlee rolled out pie crust that Roslind had prepared and
made both a cherry and a pumpkin pie, almost unassisted except for
Alex reading the directions for the pumpkin custard from the label on
the canned pumpkin puree. Alex made an apple pie all by herself and
Neekha made the most awesome knockoff Oreo cookies... much, much
better than the real thing. Ray was the grill man while he was here,
taking care of such things as steaks, chops, fish filets, hamburgers
and hotdogs. Roslind made bread and therefore pizza, burger buns,
hot dog rolls, and her "stuffies" with a mild chile with beans this
time instead of an Italianesque filling. Lyle did hearty bacon and
egg breakfasts. Rhonda, the only non-cook, took us all out to dinner
at the Vietnamese place downtown the night it was her turn.
