===========================
Hi Nancy,

NB> various sources... NB>> the kids were able to participate in the
NB> local schools sports and NB>> music programs as they were
 NB> interested...

RH> Sounds good, I'm not sure what the NC rules for that are. In GA,
RH> friends were part of a home school co-op that had sports, music, some
RH> of the advanced classes, clubs, etc as a group. They even had a
 RH> combined graduation ceremony.

NB> We had (maybe it still exists) a similar home school co-op that Lydia
NB> and her kids were involved with... She's not been part of it for a
NB> while now, but at one point she and Daddy were team-teaching Physics
 NB> as part
 NB> of the co-op... :) I don't think they did a graduation ceremony,
 NB> though...

We went to one; it was held in one of the larger churches. Each graduate
got special video recognition, got a chance to speak for a few minutes,
and parents were recognised. Afterward there was a reception in the
fellowship hall for all of them.

NB> ensemble. NB>> My niece has joined our church's praise ensemble,
 NB> too... it's only NB>> once a month...

RH> We have it as a regular part of worship, and a small special vocal
RH> music ensmble at Christmas & Easter.

NB> We have a rota for services... 4 or 5 of us sharing morning service
NB> duties, and 3 or 4 of us also sharing evening service duties...
NB> There's also usually a "pickup" choir for the special seasons... And
 NB> various
NB> instrumentalists who get called upon to play on special occasions as
NB> well... strings, brass, etc... Quite a bit of overlap among the
NB> groups, though, as it's a fairly small church... :)

I asked our interim music director if there was going to be a Christmas
choir; he's thinking about it. He's on the music staff at the College at
Southeastern (undergrad branch of the seminary).

RH> OK, as long as the it tasted good (sounds like it did) and meets your
RH> no apple requirements. We had extra for Rachel's wedding (food also) so
RH> donated the extras to a shelter for battered women. They said it was
RH> one of their nicer donations.

NB> I can well imagine that they'd appreciate the donation... :)

Helped us a lot too, as we didn't have to store it, on top of all the
other food we had because of family coming in. (G)

NB> NB>> What would have been their 61st turned into Daddy's memorial
NB> service, NB>> so the church ladies put on the reception afterwards...

RH> Bittersweet memories but good that the church ladies were able to be
 RH> of help.

NB> We probably wouldn't have done anything that big, had it just been the
NB> anniversary... :) I think that Mommy wasn't quite ready to let him
NB> go until they reached that mark, though, but wanted to mark the day in
NB> some way, so she also didn't want to wait longer... We'd buried him
 NB> earlier
NB> in the week, so as not to have to do embalming... my sister from
NB> England was able to make it here for the memorial service... :)

Understandable if there's no embalming to do the burial, then a memorial
service. I guess what we'll do for Dad will depend on the time of year
when he passes away. If it's winter, probably a funeral, then spring
burial. Other times, we'll see what is decided then.

RH> We had lunch at the Advent Christian church after my brother's
RH> memorial service but before Mom's burial--a small enough group that
RH> the pastor's wife handled the serving of food we'd had brought in.

NB> Mostly just family...? Or were there some friends from the area...?

Mostly slightly extended family (cousins) from the Albany area and Don's
former boss, so a small group.

RH> Leftovers (a good amount) were donated for the church's fellowship meal
 RH> the next day.

NB> Did you go there for services on that Sunday...? Some of the

We'd thought about it but had to leave early Sunday morning to get back
home. We had to go the round about way, thru NJ so we could see Mom's
sister, then on to MD to spend that night with the Shipps. Steve and I
have attended services there before and the pastor has been visiting Dad
regularly. (Found out he and his wife are moving to NC--don't know where
yet--this summer.)

NB> leftovers from Daddy's might have been saved for the next church
 NB> dinner at our
NB> church too... but I don't remember quite how things went on that any
 NB> more... ;)

Understandable, you've had so much more, especially the last week or so,
to be concerned with.

Catch you later,
Ruth
