Fox Bros. BBQ is a half mile away from both the Inman Park
and Edgewood stops on the MARTA. Google Maps insists that
one should go to the farther one and walk back, so we did,
down dusty DeKalb, to find a wait of 15 minutes at 2 pm.
We perched at the little bar; I got a Yuengling, and she
a locally-brewed Kolsch (it was 95 and humid out, so the
half mile was a bit of a slog). Soon we were called to
sit at a 6-top, which made us feel a bit silly, but of
course it was the end of the lunch hour, and they could
have seated another deuce on the other side if one appeared.

So. We split a combo plate, two meats and two sides, $17,
with an additional order of fried okra.

Moist brisket was perfectly marbled, nicely smoked, fall-
apart tender (just a little soft for me), with a fine crust.
The flavor was a little pallid, though, compared to the
how-shall-I-say-it more manly versions one gets in Texas
and even Missouri. It needed a touch of sauce to make it
sing, only the house sauce is woefully sweet and severely
underseasoned.

The ribs, in a sweet-salt rub, were texturally perfect (I
prefer a bit of chew in my meat) and I thought very tasty,
though Lilli thought there was an off flavor to the pork.
Also a good fat ratio, keeping things tender and basted.

For our sides, we got the famous brisket chili, which was
okay at best - strong flavor of celery-heavy bouillon and
lots of salt -, and Brunswick stew, assorted shards of
leftover barbecue (mostly chicken) with beans and succotash
in something very like that house sauce.

Fried okra, touted on the menu as always fresh, never
frozen, was delicious.

The bill set us back half of what Holeman and Finch had
cost (partially because of wine there and beer here), and
the meal was more satisfying.

Aside. Jocko's is a Santa Maria BBQ institution, one of the
first three restaurants to offer that style of cooking beef,
the others being the Hitching Post (whose younger relative
was featured in the rather pretentious movie Sideways) and
the I forget what. Lilli went there with her friends and
came back with an offering of the famed Santa Maria tri-tip;
this wasn't tri-tip at all but shell sirloin cut a funny way
so as to simulate tri-tip. It was salty, medium-well, and
almost tender, not too bad.

Aside. Sara Lee products at the club.

Ultimate Cinnamon Roll - very bland doughy roll with swirls
of quite intense cinnamon filling. Not hugely sweet, which
was a surprise. C 

Pound Cake - good heft, decent texture. Slightly sticky.
Aroma of false vanilla and false butter. Flavor negligible.
Pleasant sweetness, at least they got that right. C-

Cheese Danish - you've got to be kidding me. Blobs of odd
vaguely vanilla-y, vaguely dairy-y white stuff on an
appalling goopy egg? pastry. A parody of Danish pastry. D-
