There is, however, another option now. Especially since Steve is a member of
Amazon Prime. The problem is that when you run out you can't just run out to
(where ever) but have to plan ahead and wait a couple or three days. In
today's "got to have it right this second" world that's an option that most do
not think of or consider.

RH> We have noticed that overall, Aldi's is a decent quality. I don't like

RH> I'll either get it that way or walk out and get it at Lowe's.

Hmmmmmmmm .... my local ALDI stores only have some produce pre-packaged.
Nearly all has a bar-code sticker however. I notice that it's the things sold
by weight rather than by the piece, two-fer or three-fer that is packaged. I
don't get much in the way of produce - except they had a killer deal on
muskmelons ($1.50 ea) last week. And I've never tried their fresh meats. The
packaged meats I have essayed have been of good quality and excellent pricing.
I also buy their house brand (Beaumont) coffee.

DD> I have found Kroger to be of better quality than, say, Shop & Save or
DD> Cub Foods. Just a decent M.O.R. stupormarkup with a pretty good house

DD> Publix, being a Florida based, SE regional chain is unfamiliar to me.

RH> High quality, a bit pricier than some stores but worth it for the

Rather like our Schnuk's and Hy-Vee. Hy-Vee pushes "A friendly smile in every
aisle". But, their quality (both chains) is such that, like your take on
Publix, their is less waste, better taste and overall better value. However,
many don't know how to shop - buying strictly on price. They deserve that
bargains that they get. The bad right along with the so-so.
