The test models seldom reflect what is in the stores by the
time the magazine comes out (this is most catastrophic
with companies that outsource to a variety of different
manufacturers), and sometimes the CU people's criteria
are a bit wacky. Their main criterion for beer seems to be
similarity to plain water, and their recommendations for
wines, for example, are simply bizarre.

Okay, when they tell you what to look for in a product, that
can be helpful in consolidating your thoughts, but I will
still maintain that the actual ratings, for appliances and
other electronics, are so out of date as to be dangerous.

All refrigerator-freezers are compromises, some better
than others. Annie has a refrigerator, which I use, and
a side-by-side, which is okay except for that space issue.
Rosemary had a top freezer that was semi-fine but that
worked optimally only when the fridge part was set close
to 33; her dream one on order has a bottom freezer that
she chose because the frozen foods would not hit her when
she opened the freezer door (she is not very tall). Of
the bottom arrangements I've seen, I don't see the
ubiquitous baskets as doing much good, and they're often
a bit obstructive, especially in households that overuse
their freezer compartments such that the baskets go off
track or are otherwise stressed.

      Title: Frozen Lady Heath Dessert **

     18    To 24 ladyfingers; split
      1 tb Instant coffee
      1 tb Water; boiling
      5    1.4oz Heath Bars; frozen
      1 qt Vanilla ice cream; softened
      1 c  Whipping cream
      2 tb Cream de cacao

  Line bottom and sides of 8" springform pan with ladyfingers, cutting to
  fit. Dissolve coffee in water. Cool. Crush 4 candy bars, careful not to
  smash. Combine with coffee and softened ice cream. Spoon mixture into pan
  and freeze until firm. Whip cream with cream de cacao until stiff. Spread
  over frozen ice cream mixture. Crush remaining candy bar and sprinkle over
  whipped cream layer. Cover with foil and freeze until firm. Cut into wedges
  to serve.
