=============================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> And usually I'm just passing through on my way to or from
NB> Rochester. NB>> Now, if Michael got Annie to let him host a picnic at
NB> her house, there NB>> might be a reason to actually shop at that
 NB> Wegmans... ;)

RH> That might be a thought to consider. but not during Little League
 RH> World Series time frame.

NB> True... things get pretty congested then... I've driven thru at least
NB> once at that time... But, depending on where the house is, it might
NB> not make a lot of difference actually... :)

Unless we wanted to go out somewhere for a meal. When we were living in
Pacific Grove, outside of Monterey CA, we went out to eat one night with
some friends. Had a long wait for a table, after we were seated,
somebody mentioned the Pebble Beach Golf Tournament was being played
that week. With all the places to eat in an area like that, we still had
quite the wait, so reservations would have to be a "must" at that time.

NB> isn't a NB>> complete listing by any means, just what is being
NB> featured in that NB>> issue... My usual Wegmans is small enough that
NB> it usually is on the NB>> list of stores that don't carry certain
 NB> featured items... ;)

RH> We had PXs like that in several assignments. (G) If the commissary
RH> didn't have what I wanted tho, I always had the option of going on the
RH> economy to get it. I did that often, even in Germany, to get whole
RH> wheat pasta, among other things.

NB> I could always go to one of the bigger stores here, too... even the
NB> flagship Pittsford store... ;) One of the things that is only at
NB> that store and at Columbia is their Burger Bar cafe... with fresh-made
NB> gourmet burgers and accompaniments... I noticed that in the last
 NB> Menu...

Sounds interesting. We popped into the Brockport store on our way in the
other day, will stop over again some time this week for a few things.

NB> NB>> That wasn't quite what I was thinking about... more the level of
NB> NB>> quality of produce and of meats and baked items...

RH> That too. I definately prefer not to shop at some stores for certain
RH> things. I usually don't buy baked goods tho, with few exceptions
RH> (farmer's market being one of them). Snagged some spelt cinnamon
RH> rolls, empanadas, a pistachio shortbread cookie and a strawberry pop
 RH> tart yesterday.

NB> Fancy stuff that you'd not be so likely to make, or wouldn't want the
NB> quantity of making it yourself... :) I still buy bread and bagels
NB> and muffins, but we go through them pretty slowly... Fresh made might
 NB> go
NB> stale faster on us... :)

Basically show our face at the market, tell some of our favorite vendors
and market manager that we were going to do some travelling. Grabbed
things we'd be eating before leaving out.

NB> NB>> But also, to some extent, there was some of that aspect of the
NB> sorts NB>> of things that were available at a Wegmans... Upstate NY
NB> is, as we NB>> found out, one of the better places to buy pastas,
 NB> with all the
NB> NB>> companies here that produce it...

RH> Interesting, never thought of the state as a pasta producer.

NB> It's got a significant Italian population (along with all the other
NB> significant ethnicities) and Gioia pastas are made locally, along with
NB> the Italian sauces... Ragu, Prego, LeDestri are also local
 NB> companies...

I'd not looked at pasta boxes to see where they were made. My family
didn't eat as much of it as Steve's did, and Mom always got the A&P or
Victory store brand, or Muellers. Never anything else, always cheap,
white mushy stuff.

NB> NB>> I was mailing 1 lb boxes of Wegmans spaghetti to my son in the
NB> Flat NB>> Rate Priority Mail envelopes along with the piles of mail I
 NB> was
NB> NB>> sending down to him, as he couldn't find any spaghetti that he
NB> NB>> thought was decent in the stores in the Philly area... ;)

RH> And students live off of pasta. (G)

NB> Quick, easy and filling... :) And cheap... :)

Yes, we ate a lot of it, especially when the girls were home. We've
slacked off a lot on our consumption in the last 3 years, adding more
salads and suchlike, less pasta per meal.

NB> quite RH>> a different selection of most things than the A&P used to.
NB> The former RH>> has a larger selection of ethnic products, the latter
NB> was more basic. RH>> It's interesting to see the diversity in the
 NB> stores.
NB> NB>> Well, A&P started out as a tea company, after all... ;) And it
NB> NB>> evolved into a good basic grocery chain that was reasonably
NB> consistent NB>> no matter where you were... :)

RH> We shopped the Jacksonville (NC) one for several years before Steve
 RH> went into the Army.

NB> And Daddy always shopped the A&P whenever it was available, wherever
NB> we were living... I grew up with Ann Page products... :)

So did I, or Victory Markets products, don't recall the house brand name
for them.

Catch you later,
