Pretty good assessment there...

For my mom, that was indeed the case... I don't think it would appear
daunting to me, but I'd not expect to eat the whole thing necessarily,
either... :)

It's taught in med school, I believe... I've heard it from more than one
doctor, and found that describing pain in that way did indeed get their
attention better than excruciating, despite the proper Latin origins...
It's used for a broken bone, for example.... ;)

Part of their centralization of treatments...

The latter is what I'd expect from an ICU... but perhaps Australia has a
slightly different understanding of what intensive care is and when it
is needed...

It mostly provides a slightly less distractingly noisy place for a
patient than being in the ER, while still being convenient to the ORs
and the various testing areas...  The cubicles are equipped pretty much
like an ER one, with all the monitoring stuff...
