===============
Hi Nancy,

NB> making NB>> some progress.... Lydia's concerned because she still
NB> isn't moving NB>> her right foot in front of the left in walking,
NB> along with some other NB>> things...

RH> Hopefully minor issues that will be corrected as she gets stronger.

NB> Seems to be. When I was with her Saturday, and again yesterday, she's
NB> doing much better at the walking... pretty decent strides even, and
NB> the right foot properly going beyond the left... i think she's further
NB> along now in recovery than she was when she fell and broke her hip
NB> during the bowel surgery recovery... :) On Saturday, Lydia had 9

Good, time and healing in her own comfort zone have been beneficial. She
hasn't had to put up with the hospital environment, able to see family
every day--helps that positive attitude.

NB> pies to bake and a wedding cake to make, frost and decorate for a
 NB> Sunday wedding (she
NB> does it as a sideline business), so I was there to keep Mommy company
NB> and do the easy stuff so Lydia could focus on the job at hand... :)

Sounds like Lydia was rather busy. (G) But, you undoubtedly enjoyed the
time with your mom so it was good you were available.

NB> And yesterday was Mommy's 86th birthday and we had a family party for
NB> her... Lydia made her spinach and her corn quiches, Mary Grace made a
 NB> chicken
NB> potpie... and Lydia made a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting at
NB> Mommy's request... :) It was just MG and husband Marty, me and
NB> Richard, and one of Lydia's girls (Bonnie) along with Lydia and Mommy
NB> of course... Some of the local family were traveling back from being
NB> out of town... others were still out of town...

Sometimes quiet is better than the noise and confusion of a lot of
people, even if all the people are family. My mom passed away a couple
of weeks before her 86th birthday so your mom has reached a milestone my
mom never did.

NB> NB>> Tuesday runnings around... :) But, I've not been able to
NB> schedule NB>> lunches with friends, whether at Fu's or elsewhere...
 NB> ;0 Wegmans we NB>> do together anyway... :)

RH> I thought about suggesting prime rib tonight but decided not to. We'd
RH> both put in a good day's worth of work but saved the money and ate
 RH> soup & salad instead.

NB> Sometimes that's just as nice... ;) I finally got my car back,
NB> fixed, today... HURRAY....!!! Now I can have my freedom back... :)

Feels good, doesn't it? Tonight we had left over ribs and German potato
salad for supper, with some green beans I'd grabbed at the farmer's
market. Steve had to run out to Lowe's (hardware) before supper so I
started eating when it was cooked. Had nursery duty tonight at church so
I was able to get the kitchen cleaned up while Steve ate when he
returned.

NB> NB>> At least she's not being frustrated by not being able to cook
NB> for NB>> herself... or confused by not having that as a normal
 NB> routine...

RH> That helps. At one time we'd thought that Dad would go first and Steve
RH> & I would take Mom in. God had other plans.

NB> As is often the case... :)

And as usual, working for the best.

NB> he RH>> needs the stability of the 2 feet on the ground vs a 4 on the
NB> floor. NB>> One certainly doesn't want the walker to get away from
NB> the patient... NB>> defeats the purpose entirely... :)

RH> That's for sure! He wouldn't need a walker bag quite as much if he had
RH> the 4 on the floor model; most of them come with a seat that covers a
 RH> storage area.

NB> Yup... A number of the people I was taking care of before have had
NB> that sort... very convenient on a lot of levels... even if they can be
 NB> a
NB> little tricky to maneuver into the car when one is transporting... ;)

Guess every therapist has to make all kinds of judgement calls, as to
what walker will work best for each person. But, that's probably part of
their training so,............................
