===============
Hi Nancy,

NB> was when she fell and broke her hip NB>> during the bowel surgery
NB> recovery... :) On Saturday, Lydia had 9

RH> Good, time and healing in her own comfort zone have been beneficial.
RH> She hasn't had to put up with the hospital environment, able to see
RH> family every day--helps that positive attitude.

NB> And she's had good therapists coming to the house, and a lot of push
NB> from family to do the work she needs to do to get better... :)

Family "pushing" counts for a lot--we had to do some with Steve's mom
when she had her knee replacement. It's working quite well now.

NB> NB>> pies to bake and a wedding cake to make, frost and decorate for
NB> a NB>> Sunday wedding (she does it as a sideline business), so I was
NB> there NB>> to keep Mommy company and do the easy stuff so Lydia could
 NB> focus
NB> NB>> on the job at hand... :)

RH> Sounds like Lydia was rather busy. (G) But, you undoubtedly enjoyed
RH> the time with your mom so it was good you were available.

NB> One-armed paperhanger she was... (G) And pies baking need some
NB> attention, especially at critical points... ;)

One good smell after another.................

NB> NB>> And yesterday was Mommy's 86th birthday and we had a family
NB> party for NB>> her... Lydia made her spinach and her corn quiches,
NB> Mary Grace made a NB>> chicken potpie... and Lydia made a carrot cake
 NB> with cream cheese
NB> NB>> frosting at Mommy's request... :) It was just MG and husband
NB> Marty, NB>> me and Richard, and one of Lydia's girls (Bonnie) along
NB> with Lydia and NB>> Mommy of course... Some of the local family were
NB> traveling back from NB>> being out of town... others were still out
 NB> of town...

RH> Sometimes quiet is better than the noise and confusion of a lot of
RH> people, even if all the people are family.

NB> True... although I'm sure Mommy wouldn't have minded having a few more
 NB> around... ;)

Most likely, she got used to the "chaos" of having a lot of people
around, especially after you all started getting married and having
babies.

RH> My mom passed away a couple of weeks before her 86th birthday so your
RH> mom has reached a milestone my mom never did.

NB> Ah, but your dad has reached milestones that my dad never did... he
NB> was a few months short of his 87th birthday... He would have been 94
 NB> this
NB> year, had he lived... :)

Interesting, the milestones reached or denied.

NB> NB>> Sometimes that's just as nice... ;) I finally got my car back,
NB> NB>> fixed, today... HURRAY....!!! Now I can have my freedom
 NB> back... :)

 RH> Feels good, doesn't it?

 NB> Yup, sure does... :)

Why am I not surprised? (G)

RH> Tonight we had left over ribs and German
RH> potato salad for supper, with some green beans I'd grabbed at the
RH> farmer's market. Steve had to run out to Lowe's (hardware) before
RH> supper so I started eating when it was cooked. Had nursery duty tonight
RH> at church so I was able to get the kitchen cleaned up while Steve ate
 RH> when he returned.

NB> Sounds like it all worked out smoothly enough... :)

Quite well--came home, had a snack, put that stuff in the dishwasher and
got it going. It finished the run before bedtime.

NB> RH>> That helps. At one time we'd thought that Dad would go first and
NB> Steve RH>> & I would take Mom in. God had other plans.
NB> NB>> As is often the case... :)

RH> And as usual, working for the best.

NB> Yup... he knows what he's doing... :)

Even tho we don't, and wish we did.

RH> Guess every therapist has to make all kinds of judgement calls, as to
RH> what walker will work best for each person. But, that's probably part
 RH> of their training so,............................

NB> I'm sure it is... and I've noticed that after a hip operation the
NB> 2-wheel walkers are ordered, at least until they progress to the point
NB> where they don't need the extra stability.. One of the people at
NB> church broke his hip about the same time that Mommy did hers... he's
 NB> back to
NB> church again, too, but with the same 2-wheel walker as Mommy has,
NB> instead of the rolling walker he'd been using beforehand... I
NB> remember that Daddy also had the more stable sort after his two hip
 NB> breaks, but
NB> he was using the rolling one later... until he needed to be
NB> transported by chair instead, when the Parkinsons got worse...

It takes a lot of training tho, one of our nieces got her Doctor of
Physical Therapy last fall at D'Youville College. I think her program
was about 5 years long (but she'd had some schooling that shortened her
process). They learn where to push/poke where it hurts and how to make
the hurt go away. (G)
