=============================
Hi Nancy,

 NB> (Burger Bar)
NB> NB>> Sometimes one just has to find the right time to do something,
NB> NB>> sometimes that happens quickly, but usually it takes a while...
NB> ;) NB>> We might be doing lunch next week sometime... that might be
 NB> an
NB> NB>> option on the table, as long as I think of it when we are trying
NB> to NB>> figure out where we want to go... :)

 RH> It'll come, when it's supposed to.

NB> We're discussing that, a Mexican place called Serena's, or possibly
NB> Fu's (Linda says she'd never turn down a bento box... [g])... Neither
 NB> of us
NB> has been to Serena's, apparently she's been to the Burger Bar more
NB> than once already... I think I might still vote for that one, just to
 NB> satisfy my curiosity... ;)

So go to Serena's this time, the Burger Bar nest time. And Fu's in
between. (G)

RH> I've checked out the place we want to go to for our anniversary; it
RH> is open on Sundays so we'll go on the day itself.

 NB> That sounds good... :)

They are one of the top notch places in the area; we've been there once
as guests of someone.

 NB> that he's having more
NB> RH>> trouble with dairy now but would have had an immediate reaction
NB> if the RH>> butter were an issue, and it wasn't, phew!
NB> NB>> Sounds like you did well there, then... :)

RH> Pretty much so, knowing what the problems are and how to work around
RH> them is half the battle. Being "into" other than the standard American
RH> diet helps as well; we're comfortable working with alternatives.

NB> Yeah... that helps, too... :)

All the years of living in so many different places changed the way we
cook and eat--for the better.

NB> RH>> Yes, it was a good one for the first cool day since some time in
NB> May. RH>> I used almond meal instead of flour in the apple mix so it
NB> didn't RH>> thicken like it usually does, but it was gluten free.
NB> NB>> I guess you'd need some other sort of thickener, then... I guess
NB> NB>> cornstarch is out because of Steve, but would rice starch work
NB> NB>> instead...? Or maybe tapioca "flour"...?

RH> I'll have to check what alternatives we have on hand. Cornstarch
RH> doesn't seem to bother Steve in the amounts I use it but maybe if I
RH> use half it, half something else, it'll cut the risk even more.

NB> Something more to experiment with... :)

Always.....................

NB> RH>> Sigh! Steve commented that we take the time to make safe foods,
NB> too RH>> bad others can't reciprocate with his corn problem. Sounds
NB> like you RH>> have some what of the same, but with apples.

NB> NB>> I'd guess that people that have food issues are more likely to
NB> think NB>> of doing alternatives, at least for themselves, and then,
NB> perhaps, NB>> more generally for others with other issues... And
 NB> some people
NB> NB>> think that it just isn't their problem, so they don't make any
 NB> NB>> accommodations for others...

 RH> It's probably a combination of those 2 factors--those that have
RH> problems are more attuned to other people's problems and those that
RH> don't have the problems aren't as aware of the need for accomodating
RH> the problems others may have.

NB> And sometimes people are so wrapped up with their own limitations that
NB> they don't notice other ones, especially non-standard ones...

Seems that way, or if they have no limitations, they don't understand
why others do.

RH> Yes, and you were smart to play it safe with the cider vinegar at the
RH> picnic. I had the bottle because we used some in VT, and I knew I was
RH> going to do the chicken marinade at BP. I didn't think that I should
RH> have had Steve buy a bottle of wine vinegar or something like that to
RH> use instead, when he and Michael went into Canton. Then too, we don't
RH> know what kind of vinegar Brooks uses but I've always used cider for
RH> the knock off, partly because that's what my mom always used. I suspect
RH> Brooks does as well; it's not that expensive. Hmmm, wonder how it
RH> would taste done with wine vinegar.......................

 NB> Now there's a thought... ;) Room for more experiments.... :)

Yes, but I wanted to make it "straight up" for the side by side taste
test. Now that we're home, I can experiment.

Catch you later,
