RH>> So go to Serena's this time, the Burger Bar nest time. And Fu's
 RH>> in between. (G)
NB>> She narrowed the choice down to the Burger Bar or Fu's... and I
NB>> decided to go with the unknown (to me)... :) So, Burger Bar it is,
 NB>> this Thursday... ;)

RH> OK, so we'll see a report later this week.

Yup... ;) Here 'tis... We did go... It's an interesting place... you
place your orders at the register, pay for them, find a place to sit
(inside or outside), and they are delivered to you when ready... The
burger choices had 3 different specialty 1/2 pound beef burgers, one 1/4
pound beef burger, all with various sorts of cheese, but also a 6 oz
turkey burger, a 6 oz lamb gyro burger, a 6 oz bison burger, and a
couple of veggie burgers (a grain and a black bean)... One was allowed
to make substitutions... they were served on either a toasted sesame
brioche roll, a toasted whole wheat roll, or a toasted classic bun (for
the 1/4 pounder), or one could go bunless if desired. Come-withs were
either Tuscan fries (french fries with herb seasoning), salad or soup,
or for an extra dollar zucchini fries, sweet potato fries or onion
rings. Also available were a number of interesting sandwiches, also on
the same rolls and buns, or on a toasted Italian roll or ciabatta bread,
and coming with the same sides... Or you could have one of the salads,
entree size, instead of burgers or sandwiches... Baby kale and Arugula
salad, Grilled Cobb salad, Caesar salad or Mediterranean salad... to
which one could add chicken, salmon, or scallops, for a sum... ;) Soups
are also available in an entree size, but it's "Chef's Selection,
Inspired by the season", so I don't have any details on them.. ;)

Since it's separate from the grocery store (although one can walk in
from the store, like from a mall), they also offer beer, wine and
"spiked shakes"... Didn't try any of those, although the Ultimate
Chocolate looked interesting... But they also have soft serve custard
in chocolate, vanilla, or twist, and make vanilla or chocolate shakes
and a root beer float (from Saranac Root Beer)... and have a couple of
the computerized Coke product dispenser machines there... also bottled
water... and one can always buy a drink in the store and bring it in, if
one wanted something not readily available in the restaurant area...

I ordered the Maple Onion Bacon Burger, 1/2 pound beef burger, aged
(white) cheddar, smoked bacon, maple onion jam, chipotle aioli on a
toasted sesame brioche roll... just as listed, without any changes, and
was able to order it rare, which is how it came... :) Tasted quite
nice as a unit, and also each part, when I deconstructed it near the end
of the first half, to try each separate taste... didn't taste much
maple, but the jam, actually more like a relish, was nice enough... I
had it with the onion rings, and they were nicely done, thick-cut
natural slices in a nice batter... probably done from scratch there.
And, in the interests of proper tastings, I got the chocolate shake,
too, which also was nicely done. :)

Linda had a special-of-the-day sandwich, a crab cake on the sesame
brioche roll, with some sort of aioli and fixings... I had a bit of the
crab cake, which had fallen from her roll, and it was quite tasty, and a
good sized piece of real crab with not a lot of filler to hold things
together. She had it with the Tuscan fries, which I also had a taste
of... also nicely done.. :) She started out by asking for a box to
take home part, before even embarking on the eating... she put half of
the sandwich away at that point, but ended up talking herself into
eating the whole thing after all (she wasn't going to be going right
home and decided to worry about whether it would be safe to try to keep
the crab unrefrigerated that long)... She instead packed away most of
the fries, and eventually (as we did sit there and talk for a while),
went and got the ice cream that she'd been going to save the room for by
only having half the sandwich... :) A small bowl of Chocolate soft-serve
custard with crushed almonds on it... decent size for just a small, I
had to ask her which size that was... ;)

The portions were big enough that I was seriously considering packing up
half of mine to take along with me... especially since I was going to be
missing supper, since I was heading down to Bloomfield to stay with
Mommy for the evening... instead, since we took long enough talking, I
finished it up there, and didn't need anything for supper... ;)

Looks like it should work out pretty well for a 4th Sunday group choice,
some month... :)

RH>> They are one of the top notch places in the area; we've been there
RH>> once as guests of someone.
NB>> A special place for a special anniversary... :) How was it...?

RH> Did you see the write up I posted to Michael? Brought home enough left
RH> overs for 2 more meals so it was well worth it. Neither of us had ever
RH> had chateaubriand before, now we have.

Yup, saw the report, and commented on it directly already... :)

RH> And I'll post the results as we try the different things. I'm doing
RH> another apple crisp for the church picnic this coming Sunday so will
RH> try another non wheat alternative to the flour. I'm also going to make
 RH> a broccoli salad.

I figured you'd probably do them both... :) It'll be interesting how
the different non-wheat "flours" work or not... :)

NB>> And we could have another side by side that I could actually taste
NB>> both sides of, potentially... ;) I think that if Brooks had cider
NB>> vinegar in the bottled version of their marinade it should have
 NB>> said so, though... :)
RH> I think they probably figured it's so common that they could get by
RH> with just listing it as vinegar. If I remember, next time we go, I'll
RH> ask what type they use, and let them know why I'm asking.

That would be interesting... But, legally, I think that anything other
than regular white vinegar needs to be specified in an ingredients list
when something is being marketed...

... So easy, a child could do it. Child sold separately.
