OK, I've used the machine button sewing feature at times but like to do
it by hand better. I just finished doing some mending--redoing some hems
on shirts that had started to come out (used a twin/double needle) and
shortened a polo shirt. Figured I'd get our mending somewhat caught up
before doing Santa's overalls.

Salvaging buttons is good; I've got a good number from old uniforms of
Steve's. I presume you're sewing on the buttons so you can use the
suspenders?

Good thinking. We have knobs on all the interior doors but may change
them out for levers over the years. We're thinking of doing the garage
addition within a year or two, probably going thru what's now the
pantry, so that will be relocated, renovated and expanded. We're
currently keeping some canned goods (and my empty jars) in the water
heater room but if the new pantry is big enough, they will go there.
Another option for some of the shelving is to stow some of our lesser
used, but still want to keep relatively handy, appliances like the one
we got at Aldi's last week. It's off the counter now, in our kitchen
storage cabinet.
