And you don't even need to use the screw band as the vacuum inside the
jar will hold the lid on quite securely. we have both the regular and
wide-mouth jar sealers.

It took a bit of practice initally to get the lid to seal. However, it
is easy now. The hardest part is getting the big unit out. we have the
FoodSaver V3250 model, which apparently has been discontinued.
Foodsaver has a V3240 model, which looks the same except it is white
where ours is black. It has worked very well for us and was not as
tricky to use as the previous one (Rival Seal a Meal) we had which had
to be pressed down with both hands just right for it to pull a vacuum,
and often made an inadequate seal which would fail in the freezer.

We also found that the FreshSaver hand-held vacuum pump will work with
the lid sealers. I wouldn't give two cents though for the FreshSaver
bags. the valves on the bags don't keep a vacuum as the plastic sealing
flap is inadequate and comes off in the freezer.

   Title: Baked Oatmeal with Cream Cheese and Blueberry Filling
Categories: Pennsylvania Dutch, Dessert
Cooktime: 45 minutes
Preparation Time: 20 minutes

          Cake:
     2 lg eggs, beaten
   3/4  c water
   3/4  c milk
   3/4  c sugar
   1/4  c flour
   1/2  c brown sugar
     1 tb honey
   1/2 ts baking soda
   1/4  c vegetable oil
     3  c quick oatmeal
          Filling:
     8 oz cream cheese, softened
     1 lg egg
   1/2  c white sugar


  Cake:

  In a large bowl, beat eggs; add water, milk, and white sugar.

  Stir in flour, brown sugar, honey, baking soda, and oil.

  Stir in oatmeal last.

  Spray an 8 or 9 inch square baking pan with baking spray. Pour one-
  half of the cake into the pan. Reserve the rest.


  Filling:

  Blend cream cheese, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup of white sugar with an electric
  mixer. Spread over the batter. Sprinkle one cup of fresh or frozen
  blueberries (or other fruit) over the cream cheese mixture. Top with
  remaining oatmeal batter.


  Bake at 375 Degrees F. for 35 to 45 minutes. Let it cool for a while
  before cutting. Serve warm.
