I am not so sure that the nationality of the cheese is
superrelevant in such recipes. If you wanted the real
experience, use Gruyere + Jack to substitute for Comte
(which I have found increasingly popular of late).

Well, I suppose. But there are those who actually prefer
Spam to other kinds of meat. Down here the real poverty-
stricken ones went for Spamologues such as Treet or worse.

But Pierre could be found? And would there be trouble if
he was?

Hum. People from just about everyplace except the US Great
Lakes region consider my accent "foreign," including New 
Englanders - though there there is usually mutual comprehension,
unlike in the real south.

      Title: SPAM Vegetable Casserole
 Categories: Casseroles, Main dish
      Yield: 8 servings

      2 cn Cream of mushroom soup
           -(10 3/4 oz)
    1/2 c  Milk
    1/2 c  Pasteurized process cheese
           -spread
      1 pk Mixed frozen vegetables
           -(16 oz)
      1 cn SPAM Luncheon Meat, cubed
           -(12 oz)
  1 1/4 c  Uncooked instant rice
      1 c  Shredded Cheddar cheese
      1 cn French-fried onions (2.8 oz)
      2 c  Crushed butter crackers
    1/3 c  Butter or margarine, melted

  STATE FAIR RECIPE Jone Schumacher, Chapin, IL

  Heat oven to 350'F. In bowl, combine soup, milk, and cheese spread. In
  large bowl, combine vegetables, SPAM, rice, cheese, and onions; stir
  in soup mixture. Pour into 13x9" baking pan. Combine crackers and
  melted butter; sprinkle over casserole. Bake 50-55 minutes or until
  hot.

  NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION PER SERVING: Calories 371; Protein 13 grams;
  Carbohydrate 30 grams; Fat 23 grams; Cholesterol 60 milligrams;
