I usually go to Waffle House Christmas Day.  A waitress once told me that al
of the staff there were volunteers and they got paid more for working
Christmas, so I don't feel bad going there.  Besides, it's usually quiet in
the mornings when I can get something to eat and relax.  This year, it looks
like I may be going out with my parents and grandmother to eat on
Thanksgiving.  However, if current events work out for me, this time next
year, I'd like to be able to host my own Thanksgiving dinner in my own
place.  Nothing fancy, just something to spend time with family at home.

Now that I have the BBS running under Linux, the script kiddies are being
shown the door when they try to break in.  SSH is much more interesting to
them than telnet it seems, so while the BBS itself can handle the telnet
ports, fail2ban is handling everything else, such as SSH and FTP.  Once I
get my own place, I will work on something that will just keep the nasties
from connecting period.

I still have a lot of work to do on the new system but the mail is running
smoothly as far as I can tell.  You know the saying: when it all works, no
one says anything, but if it breaks, they tell you immediately. :D  The new
BBS is on rather recent hardware.  I'm hoping to build a brand-new computer
for the BBS eventually to run on.

Certain nation-states won't let that happen.  95% of the problems I have are
from China or Taiwan.  The rest are from Russia or the old Eastern Europe
bloc area.  There's minor problems from within the US but most of those
problems are from a limited area.

      Title: Aggie's Irish Soda Bread
 Categories: Breads
      Yield: 1 servings
 
      3 c  Unbleached white flour
      2 ts Baking powder
      1 ts Baking soda
    1/2 ts Salt
     12 tb (1 1/2 sticks) cold, sweet
           -butter
      2 c  Raisins
      1    Egg
    1/2 c  Honey
      1 c  Buttermilk
 
  Makes 1 large loaf.
  
  Preheat oven to 350F.
  
  Sift the flour, baking powder, soda and salt into a large mixing
  bowl. Cut the butter into small pieces and add.  Cut it into the
  flour with a pastry blender until the mixture is the size of peas.
  Add the raisins and toss to distribute evenly, using two forks.
  
  Beat the egg in another bowl until very frothy.  Beat in the honey.
  When it is well blended, beat in the buttermilk.
  
  Gradually pour the liquids into the flour, tossing all the while with
  a fork so the mixture gets evenly moistened.  Continue tossing
  lightly with two forks until the batter comes together; it doesn't
  have to be completely mixed and should be very rough and lumpy.
  
  Butter a heavy skillet or casserole, 10 to 11 inches in diameter and
  2 to 3 inches deep.  Round is the traditional shape.  Spoon batter
  out into the pan and push it gently to fill the pan.  It can mound up
  somewhat in the middle.  Bake at 350 F about an hour or until the
  middle is set. Cut out a piece to test if necessary.
  
  Cut into wedges and serve warm from the pan.
