I've judged cook-offs where there were only three or four "real" chillies. And
a lot of tomato soups with some hamburg and paprika tossed in.

OK. I was going from the rule I learned in second grade - I before E except
after C. That's weird. Bv)=

RH> I've noticed more in the northeast than in the south.

DD> They're also big in the Midwest - as are Moose (also segregated) and

RH> We're not in any of those organisations either.

I've been approached by several organisations - but, the ones that I might
have considered joining required (Odd Fellows - Masons) too much ritual and
the AFAM, to which my Father and both Grandfathers belonged, a far more
serious commitment of time than I was prepared to give. So,I just putter along
doing random acts of kindness and charity when/where I can and as the mood
strikes.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Sweet Charity Pie
Categories: Pies, Cheese, Fruits, Nuts, Dairy
      Yield: 6 servings

      1 c Flour
      1 c Fine chopped pecans
    1/4 c Brown sugar
    1/2 c Butter; softened
      8 oz Cream cheese; softened
    1/2 ts Almond extract
      1 c Powdered sugar
21 oz Can cherry pie filling
      8 oz Carton cool whip
           +=OR=+
      1 c Whipping cream

  Preheat oven to 375oF/190oC.

In a medium bowl combine flour, pecans, brown sugar and
butter. Use two butter knives or a pastry blender to cut
in the butter. Mix until well combined and crumble forms.
Spread crumb mixture into a sheet cake pan and bake for
15-20 minutes until golden brown, stirring once half way
  through.

Let cool, then press crumbs into a 9" round pie pan,
reserving 1 cup of the crumbs for later. Refrigerate to
  completely cool.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and
almond extract. Beat until smooth and creamy.

In another bowl, combine cherry pie filling and cool whip
  (or whipping cream).

Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top of the crumb
crust in the pie dish. Some of the crumbs might lift as
you try to spread the cream cheese layer. It helps if you
dollop the cream cheese mixture all over the top of the
  crust, then try to spread.

Top with the cherry pie-cool whip mixture.

Cover with the crumbs you reserved earlier. I used about
1/2 cup, but feel free to use the entire cup if you want.
