Hi Ruth,

RH> > We've got a lot of veterans locally, and in the state as a whole. We
RH> > also have Seymour Johnson SFB, Fort Bragg, Camp Le Jeune, MCASs New
RH> > River and Cherry Point...............................

RH> The nearest one to me is Groton, the sub base. That's 40 miles out.
RH> In a state this densely populated, that's pretty much on the moon.

We're probably 75 miles or so from the nearest base/post/air field
unless you count the National Guard installations in Raleigh and
Youngsville. The former has several buildings, including a trailer sized
PX. The latter is just an armory. The nearest VA hospital is in Durham,
about 45 minutes (on a good traffic day/time) away.

RH> > RH> Me either. I did get two necklaces assembled tonight though,
 RH> if not > RH> entirely finished.

RH> > My jewelry making is on hiatus--did the bably blanket today. It has
RH> > been cold and wet, two good reasons to have a lap full of flannel.
 RH> (G)

RH> Yep - I was outside waiting in line for a church sale this morning.
RH> Dang that was a bit chilly. Flannel and fleece keep you warmer than
 RH> beads do.

Yes, I got that blanket finished and a smaller, doll baby sized one for
the big sister. Mom said big sister really likes it. (G)

RH> > For supper we had some of the left over pulled chicken; I put 6 bags
RH> of > it into the freezer earlier but left some out for supper. We
RH> sauteed a > bit of onion & red pepper, then added the chicken. Served
 RH> it on
RH> > tortillas warmed in chicken fat, added salsa, cheese and plain Greek
RH> > yogurt. Easy to do & clean up from.

RH> We had chili from a pouch.(LOL) It's Saturday night and no one had
 RH> the energy to cook.

Sounds like us last night. We were out for a while so Steve could help a
couple we know with their computer. They fed us some green tea & date
nut bread so when we got home, we just warmed up some left over prime
rib from going out on Friday. I had some carrot & celery sticks, Steve
had those plus his left over potato half.

RH> > RH> Those accumulate around me whether I want them or not.

RH> > I've noticed that over the years. But, now it's time for me to
RH> regift > some things I'll never use to others. I'm also going to sit
RH> down and sew > up some shirts for me.

RH> Good idea. I do offload things too. Some of the necklaces end up in
RH> the local senior center. Others land in the UConn Medical Center
 RH> thrift shop.

And some have ended up down here--Steve has really enjoyed using the tie
tack/bar collection you sent, as I have also, the various necklaces.

RH> > RH> That will keep you busy. I did a meat loaf out of ground
RH> turkey and > RH> garlic chicken sausage the other night, but that's
 RH> about as far as > RH> I've gotten.
 RH> >
RH> > We were busy all day Saturday, most of yesterday and a good bit of
RH> > today. The LG was small so we had leftovers--some chicken and rolls
RH> went > home with the student.

RH> And probably didn't survive the night, knowing college students. I did

He had enough for a couple of good meals.

RH> a ginger cake tonight; we'll find out tomorrow if it worked.

That sounds good; I've not made gingerbread in a good while. I'll have
to figure out how to do a lower carb one.

RH> > RH> That's possible, but she may not know either. The pieces I'm
 RH> really > RH> curious
RH> > RH> about have no living links left.

RH> > OK, will I remember next time I see her or not? (G) Did ask her
RH> about > one thing a while ago and got a fast response--her mind
RH> wanders some but > usually comes back home.

RH> That old stuff may be more likely to pop to the surface than anything
RH> recent. A friend's grandmother was like that. She couldn't remember
RH> breakfast, but recognized a train set her brother played with about
 RH> the time
 RH> WWI broke out.

True, but I have to remember whenever we go see her. The one piece I
asked her about, I'd snapped a picture with my phone and just showed her
the picture. I'd have to do that again, but since I usually show her my
latest quilt pictures that way,...............................
