DD> The ride for me will be from home to the Pipefitter's Hall (about a

NB> So the official run is the two mile ride from the Pipefitters' Hall to
 NB> the Contact Ministries building...?

That's correct. We'll also have a police escort this year - new mayor. The
previous doofus wanted to charge for a "courtesy" escort even if the Keystones
were willing to do it on their own time. That's a big part (that attitude) of
why he's the "previous".

DD> about a mile back home. Some of the regular participants come from 30
DD> or more miles away - so their ride is very much longer.

NB> Or does it count from where one starts (and has to return home to)...?

Just in one's own mind and/or "bragging rights"

DD> The money raised usually is in the mid 5 figures -- not all carried on

NB>> Sounds like Sid was also one of the moving forces to get the run

NB>> finish the run, is there a chilli supper for the participants...? ;)

Nah. Some (like me) will return home to watch the feetball games (unlike me).
Others will repair to a bistro where they will get sustenance and/or
beverages.

DD> Sid promoted the run on-air, jawboned donors and participated in the
DD> actual "freeze your stones" motorcycle rides.
DD> One of the guys he "jawboned" early on is my former school chum,
DD> chilli cook and antiques dealer, Mitch Murdock. Although, AFAIK
DD> Mitchell never straddled a motorcycle in his life .......

 DD> Title: Mitch Murdock's Now That's Chilli

NB> So does he provide a chilli supper as part of the deal...? That would
NB> be a fun time, all around... even if it IS a cold ride... :)

I'm not sure that Mitch is even cooking chilli any more. He certainly isn't
competing in any of the cook-offs that I have judged.

DD> ... 137 Americans die in vicious aisle-to-aisle Boxing Day mall
 DD> combat.

NB> Sadly not that far out of truth.... there's always a tale the day after
NB> in the local fishwrapper of some uncalled for injury resulting...

Along with people staking out places in line right after dinner the day before
and freezing their arses off (one hopes) waiting on line to be "first".

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

Title: Wheat Starch Wrappers For Dumplings
 Categories: Pastry, Oriental
      Yield: 30 Servings

      1 c Wheat starch
    1/4 c Tapioca starch
      1 c Boiling water
1 tb Peanut oil + more to oil
           - the wrappers

Combine the wheat starch and tapioca starch in a
mixing bowl. When the water reaches a boil immediately
pour it into the flour and stir vigorously into a
ball, with a wooden spoon. The hot boiling water
cooks the starches. Add the oil to the dough and
mix together as well as possible. The dough at this
point is quite thick and lumpy.

While hot, gather up the dough and knead on a lightly
oiled surface until smooth and well blended, about 3
minutes. It should feel a bit rubbery and putty-like.

  Cover with a damp towel.

Dough is ready to make Ha Gow or Fun Gwau.

Makes enough dough for 2 1/2 dozen Ha Gow or Fun Gwau
  dumplings.
