We've heard other stories here about once-a-year
war-related treats, none of which make me eager
to live through another war.

During WWII the

One could do things with bully beef as well,
though that might have involved spices and
stuff that may have been embargoed.

It always tasted okay to me. Other canned 
proteinous things I get are baby clams in
broth and smoked oysters. Tuna fish once in
a while. I've been told by more than one that 
canned tamales are  delicious, but I don't 
believe them.

And there's the tripe that I will reoprt on once
I figure out how much of that report is old and
should be excised. Oh, heck, I'll probably just
repost the whole mess, as I don't have an archive
any more.

There's a note on the Hormel site that tells
you why it's not called that.

Indeed. If you go to the Hormel site again and
click on the recipe link on the Oven Roastd 
Turkey page you will be sent to recipes that
use ordinary Spam.

A good choice for those who have ovens and
enough in the bank to buy a whole turkey in
one go.

As I'm relatively off sour things I'd likely 
use 2 Tb cayenne; and as I'm relatively off
dairy I'd likely omit the yogurt.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.02

      Title: SPAM Pinwheels
 Categories: Appetizers
      Yield: 16 servings

      1 lb Frozen bread dough, thawed
    1/4 c  Pizza sauce
      1 cn SPAM Luncheon Meat, cubed
           -(7 oz)
      2 c  Shredded Mozzarella cheese
      2 tb Chopped pepperoncini
           Pizza sauce

  Roll bread sough out on lightly floured surface to 12" square. Brush
  pizza sauce over bread dough. Sprinkle SPAM, cheese, and pepperoncini
  over dough. Roll dough, jellyroll fashion; pinch seam to seal (do not
  seal ends). Cut roll into 16 slices. Place slices, cut side down, on
  greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in warm place 45 minutes.
  Heat oven to 350F. Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve
  immediately with pizza sauce.

  NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION PER SERVING: Calories 146; Protein 8 grams;
  Carbohydrate 15 grams; Fat 6 grams; Cholesterol 19 milligrams; Sodium
  619 milligrams.
