Hi Ruth,

RH> that on a semi > regular basis when we first moved to WF but actually
 RH> have been down
RH> > there less than half a dozen times, and not at all to the
 RH> commissary. >

RH> Sounds like you don't need it, at least not when the farmer's market
 RH> is open.

There are times I miss commissary shopping, but have adjusted my buying
habits so it's not quite as much a "gee, this isn't quite the same as
the commissary" as when Steve was newly retired. Being near a Whole
Foods is nice; having some "budget" stores in the area helps offset the
WF runs. The farmer's market is good for a lot of veggies but most of
the meats there are quite pricey so I don't generally get them there.
Lowe's is my favorite place to get that, especially when they have an
"all you can fit in the bag 25% off" sale. That even applies to packaged
lunch meats, bacon and other meats not in the regular meat case. Those
sales can be freezer stockers, if they come at the right time.

RH> > RH> Call it half an hour. I think. Her back yard actually backs
 RH> up on > RH> the grounds, I think. It's all wooded.

RH> > Sounds about normal for a military installation, lots of perimeter
 RH> > wooded areas.

RH> Seems to be, although it's not much military-wise. My dad talked
RH> about the woods around Aberdeen, and that back then they had a skunk
RH> who liked to sleep in the barracks...and it wasn't a pet skunk.(LOL)

Made its presence known a few times? We had a family in our church in
Berlin who named one of their cats "Barracks" because he was found as a
youngster in one. He'd eat almost anything, including potato chips,
because he'd had to eat anything offered, to survive.

RH> > RH> Sure does. Soft and fuzzy with a microwave heat pack works
 RH> even > RH> better, from what I've observed.

RH> > No need for a heat pack for the doll, the other is to keep baby warm
 RH> & > snuggly.

RH> True. I was thinking more of the adults with achy body parts.

I figured; we've had some nights down into the upper 20s
already--January temperatures. This house is a snug little one and the
gas heat keeps a more consistant temperature than the electric did in
the other place. Still, the body gets to aching after being used for
stirring, portioning out, cutting, etc. I made a banana bread recipe
into muffins and a baked oatmeal yesterday--portioned that out into
individual servings and froze them. That'll be our "instant" oatmeal
this winter, especially if I replenish as we eat this batch.

RH> > RH> > Probably fed it the blandest feed they could find.

RH> > RH> Tasted like. Roasting them some more helped on the second
 RH> night. >

 RH> > Sometimes that's what is needed.

RH> I don't think even the cat liked it the first time around.

That's really bad! I talked to my dad earlier--he's not one much for
seasoning on foods but said that the nursing home Thanksgiving dinner
was very bland, like it was out of a can.

 RH> > RH> Didn't think so. I figure if I'm stuck wearing menswear shirts
RH> to get > RH> sleeves the right length and backs wide enough, I'm
 RH> darned well
RH> > RH> wearing their bling too. Gaudy is good. I went to an estate
RH> sale > RH> this morning and bought more cuff links, with manual
RH> typewriters on > RH> them. They coordinate well with my slide rule
RH> ones. :-) Extinct > RH> technology and all that.

RH> > He has a slide rule, somewhere in this house--and knows how to use
RH> it. > Manual typewriters--I think the last one we had, found a home in
RH> Berlin. > The last electric one found a home, IIRC, in HI.

RH> I haven't had an electric typewriter in 20 years. Slide rules were
 RH> more my dad's thing.

We had several electric typewriters over the years, good for doing some
things that were trickier on a printer (addressing an envelop is easier
on a typewriter, not as hard to line up). But, computers and printers
took over so to save weight, space, etc, the typewriters found new
homes.

RH> > RH> Or Trader Joe's triple ginger cookies, aka trouble.

RH> > Sounds like something to look into.

RH> Or not, if you want to be safer.

True; I'd check the carb count before buying any.

 RH> > RH> That happens. A friend's wife doesn't even know him any more,
 RH> and > RH> she's only
RH> > RH> about 75 or so. Meanwhile my mom's older sister is still
RH> driving and > RH> has a touch of it too, apparently.
 RH> >
RH> > It affects different people in different ways.

RH> The ones who get it early seem to go downhill the fastest. The older
RH> you are the less chance it has to do damage, I guess.

Until the final descent. Looking back, we now see what were early signs
of it in my mom that were "written off" as other issues but were
possibly the beginnings of her memory loss.

Catch you later,
